Minersville Police Issue Warrant for Shamokin Woman Wanted for Suspected Child Abuse

The Minersville Police have issued an arrest warrant for a woman wanted for suspected child abuse in the borough earlier this month.

According to Minersville Patrolman Jeffrey Bowers, on March 9th, 2020, the Minersville Borough Police Department received a report of suspected child abuse committed by Yashira Torres-Delgado, 20, of Shamokin.

Upon investigation, it was learned that on February 24th, 2020, Torres-Delgado brought her 5 month old daughter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Emergency Department, Pottsville for treatment of five first and second degree burns on the child's head.

Torres-Delgado told the hospital that she laid her daughter down outside the bathroom and went inside to use bathroom.  She then said she could hear her daughter screaming, and when she came out of the bathroom, she found her burned by the radiator.

She said that she had no idea how she got near the radiator.  Hospital staff tole police that the 5 month old was unable to roll over or crawl at the time of the visit to the hospital.

The 5 month old was treated and released with a recommendation of follow up care.  Children and Youth was also contacted.

On March 17th, 2020, the Minersville Police Department obtained an arrest warrant through Magisterial District Judge David Plachko for Torres-Delgado on charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
