Woman and Two Children Injured in Crash in Minersville; Charges Pending

A woman and two children were injured in a crash in Minersville on Wednesday.

According to Minersville Police, around 1:00pm, Wednesday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of the 500 Block of Third Street, Minersville for a motor vehicle accident.

Police say the crash occurred when Suzanne Marie Hedemann, 30, of Pottsville, was travelling south in the 500 blk of S. Third Street when she exited her lane of travel and collided head on with a concrete mixer truck who was travelling northbound.

The mixer was unable to avoid the collision and Hedemann’s vehicle struck the mixer head on.

After collision, Hedemann’s vehicle traveled backwards coming to rest approximately 50 feet from the mixer.

Hedemann's Chevrolet Equinox sustained heavy damage with a 10 year old male passenger that was trapped under the dash.

Hedemann suffered a severe head injury while a 4 year old female passenger suffered head and chest injuries.

The Minersville Fire Department and the Yorkville Fire Department extricated the 10 year old from the vehicle and was found to have suffered severe leg fractures and head trauma.

Hedemann and the 10 year old were flown from the scene to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville while the 4 yr old female was transported to Geisinger by ambulance.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Hedemann did not have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

An initial investigation indicates that Hedemann was possibly distracted by using a cellular phone at the time of the accident. Hedemann’s cellular phone was seized from the vehicle and a forensic exam will be conducted of the phone by police. Hedemann faces charges of multiple counts Aggravated Assault by Vehicle along with numerous other charges pending completion of the investigation.
