Governor Wolf Recommends High School Sports Begin January 2021

During a press conference Thursday by Governor Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania's Governor recommended that high school sports shouldn't begin until 2021.

The comment came at the end of Thursday's press conference when a reporter asked about the guidance for spectators during the upcoming fall sporting events due to the Coronavirus.

Governor Wolf's reply was, “The guidance is we ought to avoid any congregate settings,” Wolf said. “That means anything that brings people together is going to help that virus get us. We ought to do everything we can to defeat that virus. Anytime we get together for any reason, that’s a problem, because it makes it easier for that virus to spread. So the guidance from us, the recommendation, is that we don’t do any sports until January 1st."

The reason to hold off would be to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

The Governor's comment left many questions to be answered as he abruptly ended the press conference after answering the reporters question.

The statement also came as a "recommendation", not an order.

The PIAA reportedly will make a statement later Thursday in regards to Wolf's comment.
