Police and Humane Officers Investigate After 44 Cats Seized from Home in Mahanoy Township

Mahanoy Township Police as well as humane officers are investigating a case of animal hoarding and neglect.

Code enforcement received a complaint about a strong odor from 21 High Street, Park Place, in Mahanoy Township.

On Saturday morning, humane officers with assistance from police, as well as officials from Hillside SPCA, Ruth Steinhart SPCA, and Save the Strays responded to the scene where 44 cats were found inside the home.

All of the cats were seized by officials and are being evaluated by veterinarians.

Humane officers continue to investigate with charges pending.

Members of Hillside SPCA, Ruth Steinhart SPCA, and Save the Strays are asking for help with donations to help care for the cats.
