Pottsville Woman in Custody After Stealing Vehicle in the City Earlier This Week

A Pottsville woman is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after admitting to stealing a vehicle in the city.

According to Pottsville Bureau of Police Chief Richard Wojiechowsky, on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 around 8:50am, a 30 year old Pottsville woman reported her 1987 copper Chevrolet Cavalier station wagon had been stolen from the 700 block of West Norwegian St.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle was removed from the 700 block of West Norwegian St. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 around 6:15pm. Police were able to use video surveillance cameras along with officer body camera footage from a separate incident that had occurred approximately 40 minutes prior to the theft to help identify Alicia Kintzel, 38, of Pottsville, as the person who entered the vehicle and drove it away from the 700 block of West Norwegian St.

On August 5th, 2020 police issued information on the stolen vehicle to social media and shortly thereafter a citizen recognized the stolen vehicle parked in the Lehigh Valley Health Network Schuylkill East parking garage and notified police.

The vehicle was impounded for processing and around 4:00pm, Det. Joseph Krammes observed Kintzel walking in the 400 block of N. Centre St. where she was taken into custody. During a subsequent interview, Kintzel admitted to stealing the vehicle from the 700 block of West Norwegian St. and parking it in the hospital parking garage.

Kintzel was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David Plachko who set Kintzel’s bail at $50,000.00 cash on one count of theft of a motor vehicle, one count of receiving stolen property, and one count of operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The Pottsville Bureau of Police would like to thank our citizens for their continued support as well as their cooperation in our investigative efforts.
