Shenandoah Man Charged for Incident Involving Pedestrian Struck on Route 61 in Fountain Springs

A Shenandoah man has been charged for an incident where a pedestrian was struck along Route 61 in Fountain Springs over the weekend.

According to Butler Township Police, on Saturday, August 8th, 2020 around 8:24pm, officers were dispatched to the 600 Block of Fountain Street, Fountain Springs, Butler Township in the area of the Ashalnd Gun Club for a pedestrian struck.

As officers arrived, they learned two men, Jashua Geremia Gonzales Barreto, 19,  and Kieren O'Donnell were walking northbound along Fountain Street/Route 61 when Gonzales Barreto was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound.

Gonzales Barreto was treated at the scene and transported to Ashland's Memorial Field where he was flown to Geisinger in Danville.

Around 11:30pm, Kenny Deleon, 28, of Shenandoah came to the Butler Township Police Department to report that he was involved in a traffic accident earlier in the evening in the same area where the Gonzales Barreto was struck.

Deleon told police that he believed he had struck a deer.

Officers inspected the vehicle Deleon was driving, a 1996 Subura Impreza, and compared it to the evidence recovered at the scene which matched the vehicle they were looking for.

Deleon was arrested and charged with 1 count of accidents involving death or personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and duty to stop and render aid.

Deleon was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
