Construction Worker Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on Route 61 in North Manheim Township Last Month

One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash on Route 61 late last month.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 61 in North Manheim Township on August 27th, 2020 around 10:30am.

Police say Joshua Sophy, 41, of Pottsville was stopped in his Honda Civic due to a construction vehicle working in the open lane.

Kevin Reese, 59, of Ashland was driving a construction vehicle in the closed left lane of Route 61.

A third vehicle, a Ford Escape, being driven by Karen Fuller, 54, of Pottsville approached Sophy from behind but reported that her brakes did not engage.

Fuller ended up rear-ending Sophy's vehicle disabling both cars.

Fuller's vehicle continued and struck the construction vehicle being driven by Reese.

All drivers, including two passengers in Sophy's vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.

Reese was only to report minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Fuller will be cited for following too closely.

Assisting police at the scene were the Schuylkill EMS, PennDOT, Mount Carbon Fire Police, and JRL Towing.
