Ruth Alice Smigo
, 79, of Hometown, PA died on Monday, September 28, 2020 in Allentown, PA. 

She was the wife of the late Robert Thomas Smigo, Jr. who died in 1995. Born in Gilberton, PA on April 25, 1941, Ruth was a daughter of the late Raymond H. and Blanche (nee Burntitus) Williams. A 1958 graduate of the former Gilberton High School, she received an Associates Degree from McCann’s School of Business. Ruth managed the Hometown Video Store for 10 years. She was a member of The Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua, PA. Ruth enjoyed playing bingo and going on trips to casinos. 

She is survived by daughter, Diane May and her husband James, II of Bel Air, MD; grandsons, James May III and Nicholas May; brother, Raymond Williams of Gilberton; and many nephews and nieces. 

Ruth was predeceased by son, Robert Smigo, Jr. who died in 2012 and sister, Esther Mertens. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2020 in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua. Interment in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown will follow the mass. Call 9-10:30 AM Saturday, October 10 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua.

Anita A. Loy
, 84 of Farm Lane, Pine Grove, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at home.

Born on April 24, 1936 in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Page Fox.

She was a member of the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, Pine Grove

Anita was a supervisor at the former Canoe Mfg., Pine Grove and a plant manager/supervisor at Cressona Knit.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, Harvey "Hip" Kintzel; three brothers, Fred, Ted, and John Fox; two sisters Margaret Davis and Pat Glenister.

Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Dennis Loy; eight children; Nina and husband Harry Kantner, Sr. of Rehrersburg, Patricia and husband Curt Troup of Lavelle, April and husband James Fisher, James and wife Pamela Kintzel, Sharon and husband Kurt Wessner, Keith and wife Lori Loy, all of Pine Grove, Kathy Loy and wife Donna Snyder of St. Clair, Cindy Sandler of Pine Grove; 16 grandchildren, Lyle Scheer, Jennifer Farley, Faith Zerbe, Jessica Rank, Beth Yost, Paul Neidlinger, Tucker Fisher, Jesse Fisher, Dillon Kintzel, Dalton Kintzel, Linda Pikulin, Leanne Kemmerling, Amanda Dastgheib, Keith Loy, Jr., Michael Sandler and Kirsten Sandler; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a sister Pauline Smith of England; a sister-in-law Kathleen Fox of Branchdale.

Graveside Services and interment will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:00 A.M.at the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 347 Sweet Arrow Lake Rd., Pine Grove, with Ken Kintzel officiating.

Camilla (Clemens) Ferenchick
entered into eternal life on September 25, 2020. She was born on April 13, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of Camille (Pomichowski) and Barney Clemens. She is survived by her husband James Ferenchick of Orwigsburg and her two sons, Gregory James Ferenchick, husband of Michele and Philip James Ferenchick, husband of Hope, one daughter Denise Marie Ferenchick, wife of Earl Rudolph, as well as her two grandchildren Lauren and Benjamin.

She is also survived by three brothers, Dorian, Bernard and Lee. She was predeceased by three brothers, Jacob, William and Patrick.

Camilla had many pets in her life, but none more special than her forest cat, Rocky and her cocker spaniel, Mr. Ed.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Hamilton Breiner Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Gervase R. (George) Murphy, 95, of Orwigsburg, died Monday, September 28th, at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. George was born in Minersville, on July 22, 1925, a son of the late Laura (Kessler) and Gervase Murphy. He was the widower of Mildred F. (Mealing) Murphy. George was the Owner & Operator of Murphy Trucking Co., Orwigsburg. He was a social member of the Friendship Hose Company.

George is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Ann, wife of Steve Strause, three sons Richard (Rick), Thomas and Jeffrey Murphy, eight grandchildren are Becky Eckert, Kelley Moyer, Jessica OConnell, Ryan Murphy, Randi Ellex, Kyle Rudloff, Jeremy Murphy, and Katie Murphy, nine great grandchildren and one due in October and two step great grandchildren.

George is also survived by two sisters, Joan Murphy and Shirley Polster

He was predeceased by his son David Murphy and his brothers Russell, Francis & Earl Murphy.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 2nd at Hamilton - Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Orwigsburg, with Rev. Michael Petresky officiating. There will be a Memorial Gathering from 9:30 AM until time of Service.

Interment services will follow in Kimmels Cemetery Orwigsburg.

Mary Theresa Chiplonia
, age 84, of Tumbling Run, Pottsville passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 28th, 2020 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville.

Born in Tumbling Run, PA on November 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late David and Bastina (Folino) Nicastro.

Mary was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1953. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, both in Pottsville.

She was the last member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Julian J. Chiplonia on February 18, 2009, a daughter Joyce C. Chiplonia, two sisters: Florence Rose and Margaret Reber, and a brother David Nicastro.

Mary is survived by two sons: Julian Chiplonia and his wife Nora, Pottsville and Ralph Chiplonia and his wife Debbie, Tumbling Run; three grandsons: David Chiplonia and his wife Kaitlyn, Media, Dominic Chiplonia, Newark, DE, and Cooper Chiplonia, Pottsville; two granddaughters: Amy Rose Roseman, Frackville and Emily Chiplonia, Tumbling Run; a great grandson Julian Thomas Chiplonia, Media; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church in Pottsville at 11AM on Wednesday, September 30th, with Rev. David Loper officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:30AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon.

Interment will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Pottsville.

Doris M. Shade
, age 91, of Gratz, passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on Friday, April 19, 1929, in Hegins, a daughter of the late Paul L Masser and the late Elda K Reed Masser.

She was a graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and Central Penn Business College.

She was the owner of the former Masser's Store, Hegins.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento; where she was very active in church activities, and a member of the Northern Cluster of Churches.

Doris was also a Weight Watcher leader for twenty-five years, a member of the Gratz Fair Association, the Gratz Historical Society, and the Lykens Twp Grange.

Her husband, Allen A Shade, passed away in 2000. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Helwig.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas L Leitzel and his wife Jeanne of Hendersonville, NC, and Timothy P Leitzel and his wife Patti of Millersburg; a daughter, Christine Behm and her husband Robert of Wyomissing; two step sons, Gary Shade and his wife Sue of Halifax, and David Shade of Millersburg; a step daughter, Debbie Kreitzer of Port Trevorton; a granddaughter, Angela Helwig and her fiancé Rick Price II; a grandson, Jay Leitzel and his fiancé Kayla Williams; and several other grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Comella of Gates Mills, OH.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View. Please follow COVID-19 guidelines for the visitation.

Following the visitation the procession will leave the funeral home for graveside services at Union Cemetery, Gratz, with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, at a later date.

Glenn Darrell Matejick
, 80, of Ringtown, passed away Monday, September 28th, 2020 after fighting a brave battle against Parkinson's Disease.

Glenn was born in Ashland, on April 3, 1940, a son of the late Dorothy M. (Griffiths) Matejick and John J. Matejick.

Upon graduating the former Ashland High School in 1959, Glenn served his country for four years as a jet aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force. He continued his military service with the United States Army National Guard at Ft. Indiantown Gap for over 27 years until his retirement as a Staff Sergeant. Glenn received many citations for his service during his military career.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic church in Ringtown.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Valeria S. (Hardy) Matejick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald E. Matejick.

Glenn loved God and his family. He was a kind, caring, and loving husband and father who will be dearly missed. Along with his wife Valeria, he is survived by three daughters, Suzanne C., wife of Steven Carter; Gayle A., wife of Daniel Malick and Valerie A. Matejick.

A sister, Michelle Jacobs, and a brother, John J. Matejick, survive as do his two grandchildren, Lauren M. Malick and Joseph D. Carter, along with nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Mr. Daniel J. Pascavage
, age 75, of Delano, died Monday morning at Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Born in at the former Locust Mountain Hospital he was the son of the late John and Stasia (Cytrynowicz) Pascavage. He was a 1963 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and served with the United States Coast Guard. He retired from PPL Electric Utilities as a Transportation Mechanic Leader. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Mahanoy City. He was a member of, Past President, Treasurer, and Chief Engineer of the Humane Fire Company in Mahanoy City, the Rescue Hook and Ladder in Shenandoah, the Delano Fire Company and a social member of the West End Fire and Rescue in Mahanoy City. He was past president of the Schuylkill County Firefighters Association, Schuylkill County Historical Fire Society and was Mahanoy City Fire Department person of the year in 2005. He was a Pennsylvania State Fire Instructor Emeritus and was a Red Cross First Aid and CPR instructor. He was also a member of Masonic Cedar Lodge #378 F & AM of Mount Carmel, the Bearshead Sportsman Association and the Anthracite Craftsman Club. 

Survivors include his wife the former Ann Jenkins, a son Bruce and his companion Janice Yashinsky of Barnesville, a daughter Tanya Ambrose and her husband Jason of Selinsgrove, a brother John and his wife Mary of Perkasie and a sister Constance Van Saun and her husband Garth of Harrisburg, grandchildren Rachel Tempest of Greenville, SC, Dimitri Pascavage of Barnesville, Carlee and Brayden Ambrose of Selinsgrove. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. James Carroll on Monday at 11 AM from St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Mahanoy City. Friends may call at the church on Monday beginning at 9:30 AM until time of Liturgy. A mask must be worn by all guests.
