Victim Identified After Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Route 61 Late Wednesday

The victim of incident where a pedestrian was fatally struck late Wednesday has been identified.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 at 8:00pm, Pottsville Police were dispatched to Route 61, north of E. Race Street, to investigate a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival officers located a deceased 18 year old male laying on the east side of the roadway. Officers also were met by a 29 year old man from Shenandoah who told police he had been operating a 2012 Subaru Legacy on northbound on Route 61 when he struck the victim. 

According to Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Andrew J. Szczyglak, 18 year old, Nicholas Allen Novak, of Pottsville, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:36pm.

Chief Wojciechowsky said early Thursday that the incident is still under investigation.
