Pottsville Man Swindled Out of $8,000 in Fraudulent Tech Support Scam

The Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven are investigated an incident where an elderly man was swindled out of $8,000 in a scam.

According to troopers, on August 13th, 2020, around 1:30pm, an 82 year old man from Pottsville  contacted by a fraudulent Microsoft support system phone number when his computer screen froze.

The person on the phone informed the victim that he had to purchase several thousands of dollars in gift cards in order for his computer to be fixed.

Police say the man reportedly purchased $8,000 in various gift cards.

State Police continue to investigate the incident.
