Law Enforcement Responds to Gilberton Following a Pursuit Late Monday

The end result of a police pursuit prompted a response by law enforcement to Gilberton late Monday.

According to Mahanoy Township Police, a "Be on the Lookout" was issued by federal law enforcement who were pursuing a Black Dodge Challenger heading north on Route 61 from Saint Clair.

While on patrol, Mahanoy Township Police spotted the suspect vehicle just after 11:00pm exiting Interstate 81 at the Mahanoy City Exit.

The suspect vehicle then led Mahanoy Township and Mahanoy City Police in a pursuit along Route 54 through Mahanoy City and westward toward and into Gilberton.

The suspect vehicle failed to follow the roadway near the Route 924 bridge and lost control in a gravel lot, with the suspect fleeing on foot.

Local, state, and other law enforcement including a helicopter from the Pennsylvania State Police converged on the area.

By 11:45pm, law enforcement had cleared the scene without a suspect in custody.

Local police responding to the scene include Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy City, Frackville, and West Mahanoy Township.
