Just after 10:30am, emergency personnel were dispatched to 32 Draper Street, in the Longrow Section of Gilberton for a house fire.

Frackville Police were the first on scene and found heavy fire climbing the outer wall of the side of the home and a working fire was dispatched.

According to fire officials, the family that lived in the home was asleep at the time of the fire but escaped unharmed.

Fire units from Frackville, Mahanoy City, Gilberton, and Shenandoah responded to the scene and had the fire under control and began overhaul within an hour, but the home was destroyed as well as the all of the family's belongings.

A State Police Fire Marshal was requested to investigate and according to Gilberton Fire Marshal Barry Brassington, the cause of the fire was ruled a chimney fire.

The Peel family that lived in the home lost everything and the American Red Cross was at the scene later on Saturday to assist with food, clothing, and lodging.
