Coroner Called to the Scene of the Tamaqua Hi-Rise Fire Friday Morning

On Friday morning, just after 6:15am, emergency personnel were called to 222 East Broad Street, Tamaqua for a structure fire.

Schuylkill County 911 radio traffic stated that an alarm came in from the ABC Hi-Rise for a fire on the 16th floor.

As the first chief arrived on scene, he confirmed a working fire with possible entrapment and requested a 2nd alarm with a RIT team.  Fire was visibly seen blowing out a 16th floor window with multiple people trapped.  Multiple ambulances were called to scene to assist with evaluation of patients.

The upper floors of the hi-rise were evacuated during the incident.

By 6:50am, the fire was reported to be knocked down.

At least one victim was reported to have been flown to an area hospital with injuries.

As of 9:00am, a Schuylkill County Coroner was called to the scene.
