Austin D. Frank, 99, of Pine Grove, formerly of Gordon, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East.

Born on December 19, 1920 in Gordon, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Alice Duncan Frank.

He was a graduate of Ashland Area High School and a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon.

Austin was a Seaman 1/C in the Navy, serving during WWII.

Austin worked in the Maintenance Dept. for the North Schuylkill School District.

He loved to hunt and fish.

Preceding him in death were his wife Kathryn R. Jack Frank; two sisters, Rose Chornock and Adda Cornitti.

Surviving are his son, Austin L. and wife Tina Frank of Pine Grove; two grandsons, Timothy and wife Donna Frank of Texas and Jamie Frank of Myerstown.

All Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to Simpson United Methodist Church, 117 E. Biddle St., Gordon, Pa. 17936 in his memory.

Ella Mae Hoppes
, 94, Frackville, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at Broad Mountain Manor Nursing Center, Frackville.

Born in Frackville she was a daughter of the late James and Eva Pearl Zimmerman Coon. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Frackville.

Mae and her husband Robert “ Bob “ Hoppes owned and operated the former Hoppes Funeral Home in Frackville for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Hoppes in 1980 and also by her sister Lois Sanner.

Mae is survived by her two sons; Robert J. and his wife Dawn Hoppes, Fleetwood and William F. and his wife Patti Hoppes, State College also by her four grandchildren; Holly, Zachary, Andrew and Matthew also by nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions the viewing, services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in Mae’s name, be made to the Memorial fund of Zion Lutheran Church, 48 S. Nice Street, Frackville, PA 17931

Lawrence "Larry" Comisac, 76 of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, formerly of New Ringgold, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp..

Born Friday, February 4, 1944 in New Ringgold, Pennsylvania the son of the late Michael and Eulah (Queen) Comisac. He was also predeceased by; sister, Irene Davis; brothers, Daniel C. Comisac, and Joseph R. Comisac.

Surviving are brother, Michael S. Comisac, Sr. of New Ringgold; sisters, Dorothy Kupetz of Mary-D, Mary Ann Kupetz of Tamaqua , Deborah Ehret wife of Robert of New Ringgold. Many nieces and nephews also survive Larry.

Larry was affiliated with St. Mary's Orthodox Church of Coaldale.

John R. "Howch" Howchick
, 77 of Shenandoah passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown after a courageous battle with COVID-19.

Noel G. Glunz
, 73, of Pottsville passed away peacefully at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Harrisburg, on Friday December 11.

He was born July 29, 1947, in Pottsville a son of the late Charles C. and Doris Dunlop Glunz.

Noel was a 1965 graduate Nativity BVM High School.

When he was young, he worked at the Capital Theater. Later working at Gold Mills and then Miners Bank until retiring.

Noel was parishioner of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. He was a member of St John's Beneficial Society and also volunteered with the food committee. He loved to spend time at his cottage on Silver Lake in Lewisberry. While there he became a regular at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where he also helped with their food committee.

Noel was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail A. Close and a son, Scott G. Glunz; infant grandson Ryan Close .

Noel is survived by his Children, Melissa LeBlanc, husband of Marcel of Pine Grove, and Mark G. Glunz of Pottsville; six grandchildren Scott A., Adrianna and Hailey Glunz of Pottsville, Mallory, Marcel L. and Maelynn LeBlanc of Pine Grove; a brother Mark C. Glunz, Katy, TX.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30AM from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 5-7PM Friday and 9-10AM Saturday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Noel be made to Huntington Disease Society of America Eastern, Pennsylvania Chapter, 2952 Kings Mill Rd, Bethel Park, 15102. Interment will follow in Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville. Everyone attending is required to wear a mask.

Merle C. Kent
, 91, former Ashland and Mt. Carmel resident, passed away December 11, 2020 at the Mt. Carmel Nursing Center. Born in Coal Township, February 14, 1929, she was the daughter of Roy and Victoria Zavalick Greager. She was a graduate of the Shamokin High School. After graduation, she went to mining school, and earned a certificate in Anthracite Mining. Merle worked for the former Wilbur White Coal Company of Ashland as a loader operator and hoisting engineer. She later worked as a sewing machine operator for the former Lady Hope Dress Company of Kulpmont, and as a bartender in the Mt. Carmel area until her retirement.

Her love was shopping, Casino gambling, word search puzzles, and reading the newspaper. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Preceding her in death was her husband Charles “Chick” Kent, passing in 2013, a sister Dorothy Updegrove, and brothers John, Donald, and Roy Greager.

Daughter: Dorothy Gene Kaseman wife of Bruce Gressley, Boyertown

Son: Wilbur White and his wife Carol, Black Heath, with whom she resided until her illness.

Son: Donald White and his wife Brenda, Ringtown

Son: Russell “Tiny” White and his wife Lisa, Ashland

Grandchildren: Shannon Brown, Jerri wife of Terry Koch, Megan wife of Christopher Ambrose, Jennifer White fiancée of Shawn Shadle, Donald White and his wife Kristen, Alicia White fiancée of Nathan Klinger, David White and his wife Kathryn, Richard White and his fiancée Ashley Guziniski

Great Grandchildren: Veronica, Reagan, Charlotte, Carson, Sophie, Owen, Adalynn and Dawson

Nieces and Nephews

Merle will be interred with her husband in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
