Todd M. Sterner
, 48, of Cressona, passed away Monday, December 14th, at UPMC, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.

Born in Pottsville, on June 27, 1972, a son of Richard Sterner, and his fiance Lu-Ann Header of Schuylkill Haven and the late Patricia (Bickel) Sterner.

He was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and attended First United Church of Christ Schuylkill Haven. He was employed by R and R Auto Group, Schuylkill Haven. He was a member of Friedensburg Fish and Game.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his girlfriend Bonnie Sonoski and her children Robert Weismiller, III and Gracelyn Weismiller; his beloved dog Hoagie; nieces and nephews.

Richard B. Dolan
, Frackville, passed away at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, Allentown on Tuesday December 15th.

Richard was an Army veteran and a life member of the Frackville American Legion Post 398, where he also served with the honor guard. He worked as a master plumber until his retirement and was a member of the Plumbers Local Union 690. He was also a member of the Frackville Elks Lodge 1533.’

Richard is survived by his wife Patricia Mertz Dolan, Frackville.

Janet L. Dayson, 73, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday, December 14th, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Janet was born in Landingville, on May 12, 1947, a daughter of the late Mildred H. (Hoffman) and George E. Bair.

She was the wife of Thomas W. Dayson. They were married November 28th, 1968. During her life, Janet, was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family.

In addition to Thomas, her husband of 52 years, Janet is survived by her three daughters, Tammy Dayson, Companion of Albert Timmons; Tawny, wife of Jason Miller and Tanya Dayson, Companion of Nathan Sausser. Janet is also survived by her grandchildren, Alyssa, Macy, Hunter, Joshua, Andrew, Ally, Niko, Sofia, Jakoby, Gianni and Jakoda.

She was predeceased by an infant son Timothy in 1973 and her brothers Robert Bair and Gary Bair, Sr.

Private services are entrusted to the Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Orwigsburg.

Our community lost a beautiful person in Cynthia “Cindy” M. Semerod, 63, of Minersville, who passed away on Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

Born on November 22, 1957 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Edith Updegrove Lescavage. She was a 1975 graduate of Minersville Area High School. She had a career in banking; and currently worked for BB&T, Pottsville.

She was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and a current member of Holy Family Parish, Minersville. Cindy was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She was a generous and kind person whose smile lit up a room. She made friends wherever she went and people genuinely enjoyed being around her.

She came from a tight knit family and shared a special bond with all her siblings, especially her sister, Lynn Ann. She enjoyed casino trips with her husband and family, shopping trips with her sister and friends, and made great memories at the beach with her niece and nephew Dominique and Michael.

Cindy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 34 years, David E. Semerod; four siblings, Bernard Lescavage (spouse, Michelle), Minersville, Lynn Ann Dudash (spouse, Michael), Peach Mountain, Steven Lescavage (spouse Heidi), Primrose, and Kevin Lescavage (companion, Lori Spencer), West Pittston; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins; her maternal uncle, David Updegrove, Pitman; her paternal aunt, Pat Lescavage, Arizona. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Olive Semerod, Pottsville, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous close friends.

Cindy loved animals and could be counted on to take in a stray or rescue, whether feline or canine. She was the “best fur mom” around, and will be missed by her fur babies.

Even though our hearts are broken, we have wonderful memories and will always have a guardian angel watching over us.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. There is no visitation on Wednesday morning; however, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 139 Spruce Street, Minersville. Visitors and attendees are expected to follow CDC guidelines. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. The family prefers donations to Hillside SPCA, P. O. Box 233, Pottsville.

Rosemary (Klocek) Nieddu
, 93 of Shenandoah passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

Born in Shenandoah on November 10, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Grutza) Klocek.

She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry.

Rosemary was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was also a member of the ILGWU. She treasured the time spent with her family; she was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing many meals for family gatherings throughout her life. She served as the sacristan for the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and felt honored to prepare the altar linens for many years.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, John J. “BZ” Nieddu on September 6, 1984; an infant son, John at birth; one brother, Leonard Klocek; and one sister, Florrie “Ann” Satkiewicz.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jo Jacavage and her husband Gene of Shenandoah Heights; two sons, Michael Nieddu and his wife Susanne of Ashland and Frank Nieddu and his wife Janine of Shenandoah Heights; four granddaughters, Jessica Jacavage of New Jersey, Jaclyn Sims and her husband Justin of New Jersey, Elyssa Johnson and her husband Jeremy of Fountain Springs and Kristina Nieddu of Shenandoah and her fiancé Jake Balkiewicz; four great grandchildren, Ella, Frances Mae, Cameron and Jayden; two sisters, Frances Klocek of Shenandoah and Dorothy Lashock of Hazleton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services and interment in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mabel Violet Burke
, 104, of Saint Clair, passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at her home.

She was born on April 6, 1916, in Pottsville.

She was a daughter of the late Ralph Chester Starr and Katherine (Stichler) Starr. Mabel was the wife of the late John Albert Burke Sr., who passed away in 1990.

She was co-owner of the for-mer Burke's Candy, Saint Clair, with her husband. Everybody loved Mabel's smile.

Mabel was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church, Saint Clair. She was also a member of the Saint Clair Historical Society.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Krobert, who passed away in 1992; a brother, Chester Starr; a brother, Robert Starr; a sister, Eva Kull; a brother, Raymond Starr; a brother, Clyde Starr; a sister, Mildred Donaldson; a sister, Dorothy Chrin; a sister, Grace Pavlick; a brother, Harold Starr.

Mabel is survived by a son, John Albert Burke Jr., of Saint Clair; a daughter, Ruth Mae Krobert, of Saint Clair; a daughter, Mary Catherine Rossi, wife of Eugene, of Saint Clair; a daughter, Irene Marie Burke, of Saint Clair; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Burke, of Saint Clair; a sister-in-law, Florence Starr, of Cressona; a grandson, Eugene Rossi; a grandson, Kenneth Rossi; a grandson, Brian Rossi; a granddaughter, Lynn Hale; a grandson, Michael Moore; a granddaughter, Brenda Heim; a granddaughter, Patricia Mervine; a granddaughter, Jenifer Yoder; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

A Religious Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, with calling hours from 10 a.m. until the time of the service outside James H. Evans Funeral Home Inc., Saint Clair, in accordance with CDC guidelines. The Rev. Jack Culbert will officiate the service. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. James H. Evans Funeral Home Inc., Saint Clair, is in charge of arrangements.

Jay Lynn Bell II
., 55, of Alsace twp.Berks Co.,passed away Saturday, December 12th, in Dorrance twp, Luzerne County. 

Jay was born in Los Angeles, California on July 16, 1965, a son of the late Genevieve (Manev) and Jay Lynn Bell, Sr. He was the Head Mechanic at Holland Towing, Temple. He was a beloved father, son, brother and pop. He was quiet and hardworking. He loved his family. Nothing made him happier than watching his grandsons race.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a Brother, David A. Bell. Jay is survived by a son, Jay L. III, husband of Jessica Bell, two daughters, Leigh Ann Bell and Teri A. Bell. He is also survived by his grandsons, Tyler, Zacary & Lucas Bell. Nieces & nephews.

Helen Kathryn Sorokach, 92, of Pottsville, passed away Monday, December 14th, at Green Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. N. Manhein Twp. 

Helen was born in Pottsville, Pa. on February 18, 1928, a daughter of the late Kathryn (Feeley) and Bernard Maguire. She was the widow of Joseph Sorokach who died November 12, 2011, having been married for 52 years. She was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church of Port Carbon and St. Clare of Assisi Church of Saint Clair. Helen was a Graduate of St. Stephen Catholic High School, Port Carbon. She had worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry. 

Helen is survived by two daughters, Kay Anne, wife of Tom Barber, Minersville, and Bernadette Sorokach, Pottsville. She is also survived by grandchildren Christian Barber of Fairfax VA. and Ashley Barber, Hummelstown. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
