Representative Twardzik was sworn in last week for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session.
“I look forward to using my real-world experience as a businessman,” said Twardzik. “As a member of these standing House committees, I will work to help the children throughout the Commonwealth, ensuring that their educational needs are met. I am also eager to work with the Commerce and Urban Affairs committees to tackle the ongoing blight issues throughout my district.”
The Children and Youth Committee studies adoption and child protection issues, along with child day care services, infant/child/mother health issues, juvenile delinquency, and adolescent and teen problems. It played an integral role in previous sessions to update the state’s child protection laws and continues to monitor those laws to make any necessary updates. While the Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.
The Commerce Committee works with the departments of Community and Economic Development and Banking and Securities. It covers topics like state economic development, eligibility for mortgage assistance and consumer complaints regarding loans and credit cards.
The Urban Affairs Committee considers legislation affecting cities of all sizes, including housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water.
The 123rd Legislative District consists of part of Schuylkill County, including the city of Pottsville and the townships of Blythe, Branch, Butler, Cass, Delano, East Norwegian, Foster, Mahanoy, New Castle, Reilly, Ryan and West Mahanoy, along with the boroughs of Ashland (Schuylkill County portion), Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville, Gordon, Mahanoy City, Mechanicsville, Middleport, Minersville, Mount Carbon, New Philadelphia, Palo Alto, Port Carbon, Shenandoah and St. Clair.
