Two Flown After House Fire in Girardville on Friday Morning

A total of four people were injured in a fire in Girardville on Friday morning.

Around 8:15am, Friday morning, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 200 Block of West Main Street in Girardville for a house fire.

Girardville Chief Frank Zangari was first on-scene and found heavy fire and smoke coming from 217 West Main Street and 2 victims on a roof and 2 possibly entrapped.

A second alarm was dispatched adding an additional response from surrounding communities to the call including units from Northumberland County.

Chief Zangari reported that before fire crews arrived, neighbors jumped into action, retrieved a ladder, and rescued to the two victims from the roof.  No entrapment was reported after everyone escaped.

Two Geisinger Life Flight helicopters were called to transport two children that suffered smoke inhalation.  Two adults, one with breathing problems and another with minor burns, were transported via ambulance.

In total, the American Red Cross is assisting 7 victims that were displaced from 215 and 217 West Main.

According to Chief Zangari, the fire was mainly contained to 217, which was gutted, and the adjacent home at 215 suffered minor damage. 

A State Police Fire Marshal has been called to determine a cause.
