North Schuylkill Grad Reggie Crawford Continues to Lead at UConn

During his Senior year in High School, North Schuylkill's Reggie Crawford made a name for himself in swimming and on the baseball diamond, now in his sophomore year at the University of Connecticut, he continues his leading ways.

On Friday, the UConn Huskies Baseball team opened their season with a series against Virginia.

Crawford, who plays first base, stepped up to bat with the Huskies scoreless during the Top of the 7th inning and scored the first run of the season for the team when he knocked one out of the park. (See video below)  His home run would end up being the only score of the game for UConn in their (2-1) loss.

Again on Saturday, during the second game in the series, in Crawford's 4 at bats, he would score twice for the team.  The team would take home the win 10-9.

Crawford was on the starting lineup again on Sunday afternoon's game in the third game of the series.

According to UConn's stats listed on their website, last season, Crawford was a 2020 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American and registered a .365 AVG with team-leading seven doubles and 16 RBIs. He scored eight runs, hit one home run and stole a base during his freshman season.

He also led the team with four multi-RBI games including a team-high five RBIs against No. 8 Michigan (2/16) at the MLB4 Tournament. His 12 game reach base streak and 11-game hit streak were both tops on the team. Notched his first career hit off Kumar Rocker and No. 1 Vanderbilt (2/15). Went 4-4 with three doubles and made collegiate debut on the mound (0.1 IP) to seal series win against No. 1 Michigan (2/23). Went 3-5 with three RBIs and first career home run at New Orleans (2/29). Went 3-6 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored at Presbyterian (3/7).
