Mahanoy City Woman Faces Charges After Threatening Granddaughter's Boyfriend with Butcher Knife

A Mahanoy City woman was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison late Thursday after she threatened her granddaughter's boyfriend with a butcher knife.

According to Mahanoy City Police, Debora Hettrick, 60, of Mahanoy City was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and possessing the instrument of the crime with intent to use it.

Around 9:15pm,  Thursday evening, Patrolman Thomas Rentschler was dispatched to a home in the 600 Block of West Pine Street for a reported domestic involving a female with a knife.

An investigation by Rentschler at the scene found that Hettrick allegedly threatened her granddaughter's boyfriend with a 12-inch butcher knife after an argument. During the incident Hettrick allegedly grabbed the knife from a kitchen counter, raised it above her head, and went after the boyfriend with it.

Hetrick was taken into custody without any further incident, arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on 10% $10,000 bail.
