Paving Project to Begin Next Week on Route 61 in Orwigsburg



On Friday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 5 announced a project to improve PA 61 between University Drive and Brick Hill Road in Orwigsburg Borough, North Manheim and West Brunswick Townships will begin Monday, May 24.
Work on the project includes roadway milling, patching, paving, bridge deck waterproofing, new guiderail, and line painting.

Motorists can anticipate lane restrictions on this section of PA 61 during the project.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Pa., is the general contractor on the $6,176,177 project that is anticipated to be complete in November.

This section of PA 61 has an average daily traffic volume that varies between 12,578 (6,316 northbound and 6,262 southbound) vehicles near Brick Hill Road and 21,118 (10,866 northbound and 10,952 southbound) vehicles near University Drive.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, and relevant training.
