UPDATE: Mahanoy City Woman Falls Asleep While Driving and Crashes into Treatment Center

 

State Police have provided an update into a crash that occurred early Monday near Mahanoy City.
Just after midnight, emergency personnel were dispatched to 5 White Owl Drive, the Silver Pines Treatment Center in Mahanoy Township for a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle into a structure.

At the scene, they found a Mercury Mountaineer had crashed into the office area of the facility.

The female driver was not injured and had extricated herself from the vehicle on her own.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the 41 year old female driver fell asleep at the wheel while driving on White Owl Drive and lost control.  Her SUV went off the side of the road, down an embankment and into the building.

The woman was evaluated by EMS and placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

Responding to the scene were firefighters from the West End Fire and Rescue, Mahanoy City, as well as Mahanoy City Police, and State Police.
