Fire Destroys Home Overnight in Mount Carmel

A fire destroyed a home overnight in Mount Carmel.

Around 1:00am, Sunday, emergency personnel were called to 12 South Walnut Street in Mount Carmel for a working house fire.  

As firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with heavy fire on the second floor of the home.

The fire was brought under control within an hour with a majority of the fire damage being contained to one home.

Everyone was reported to escape the fire uninjured.

Along with Northumberland County units, the Washington Fire Company from Ashland and Mahanoy City West End Fire and Rescue were called to assist.  The Rangers Hose Company from Girardville, Lavelle Fire Company, and American Hose Company from Ashland were all on stand by for the incident.

No word on a cause at this time.
