Proposal for Drug Rehab Facility in Butler Township Withdrawn

Plans for a drug rehab facility in Butler Township have been withdrawn.

On Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, a hearing was held at the Fountain Springs Fire Company to allow representatives from FireTree Limited and residents of Butler Township to discuss the proposed sale of the Fountain Springs Country Inn.

The sale of the Inn, located at 52 Country Club Road, near Ashland, to Firetree was being proposed to turn the property into a Drug and Rehab Facility.  Firetree said, at the time, they were buying the property to move their current Pottsville facility to Butler Township.

During the hearing in October, Firetree offered their comments and answered questions from residents on the record before the board.  Over 100 township residents attended the hearing with most opposing the sale.  That meeting would be recessed after 2 hours with a second meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021.

On Tuesday evening, the second meeting was held to continue the discussion but instead, an announcement was made that Firetree had withdrawn their proposal.

Butler Township Solicitor Brian Urban announced that he had received notice from the company withdrawing their variance request to build the drug rehab facility.

Representatives for Firetree were not in attendance to comment.   There is no word if the Firetree is still purchasing the property or if the owners are still looking to sell.
