Ann Ellen Fern, 83, of Tamaqua, PA died on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in Hometown, PA. 

Born on April 16, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jessie (nee Wall) Dewire. A 1957 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Ann worked in Schuylkill County as a home health aide until retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua. Ann loved her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She spent her pastime reading and playing bingo, liked Rolling Rock beer, enjoyed the outdoors taking rides in the country and fishing, and was always ready to go flea marketing. 

Ann is survived by daughter, Joanne Terray of Dover, DE; sons, Joseph Fern of Palm Bay, FL and Michael Fern and his companion, Barb Garber of Barnesville, PA; son-in-law, Leroy Hagerty of Summit Hill, PA; grandchildren, Amanda, Dorothy, Jessica, John, Eric, and Danny; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Sloan, MacKenna, Ryker, Locklyn, Grant, Wyatt, Brooks, Jesslyn, Drake, Eli, Genesis, Juliet, Bradon, Jenna, Madison, and Tyler; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dewire of Hometown; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Ann Hagerty; son-in-law, John Terray; daughter-in-law, Deborah Fern; granddaughter, Kelly; and brothers, Franklin Dewire and Robert Dewire. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, 503 W. Broad Street, Tamaqua will follow the service. Call 10-11 AM on Friday at the funeral home. 

Memorials in Ann’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950. COVID-19 protocols will be followed.

Helen “Tooter” (Lohenitz) Linkevich, January 4, 1947-November 12, 2021, died at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Lillian Ida (Rohlfing) Lohenitz and Peter Lohenitz and preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” Lohenitz.

Helen was a member of the Tamaqua Class of 1964 and attended Bloomsburg University, graduating in 1968. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Linkevich, and her three daughters: Pamela Ohl and her husband Mark; Mary Linkevich and her companion Joseph Coccio, of Tamaqua; and Ann McCann and her husband Brendan of Granada Hills, California. Helen was a proud Nana of her beloved granddaughter Jaclyn Ohl and grandson Ronan McCann, and had a much-loved niece, Sherri Riddle and nephew John Lohenitz and their families, both of Alabama.

Helen earned a teaching degree and taught business at Whitehall High School before relinquishing her career to raise her three wonderful daughters. She loved swimming, faithfully visiting the YMCA facility in Hazleton, as well as vacationing in Cape May with her “Cape May Girls” and family, and spending as much time as possible at “The Bungalow,” enjoying her signature “spot” at the community pool every summer. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her and her infectious smile and laugh.

Margaret A. “Peggy” Yesalavage
, nee McAndrew, 83, of Girardville, passed away on November 12, 2021 at Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg, PA.

Peggy was born in Ashland, PA to Margaret E. “Peggy” McAndrew, nee Tiley and Bernard McAndrew on August 22, 1938. She graduated from Ashland High School in the class of 1956. She married Michael A. Yesalavage on July 9, 1958 in Girardville. She worked as a telephone operator in Baltimore, MD, then was the owner and operator of the Yesalavage Insurance Agency with her husband where she was also a typist and notary. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Kristin A. Yesalavage, son Michael G. Yesalavage, and grandson Richard Petusky.

Peggy is survived by grandchildren Vanessa Meyers, Margaret “Maggie” King, and Justin Yesalavage, great grandchildren Camdyn, Wyatt, Lane, Macie, and Logan, niece and nephews Kerry Yesalavage, Lisa Wright, and Max Yesalavage. She was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of her newest great grandchild Baby King (of Maggie and Quan King) to whom she lovingly referred to as “Bryce Harper King”.

She greatly enjoyed the companionship of her beloved puppy and “best boy” named Harley, and enjoyed reminiscing about her high school classmates. She loved to travel around the United States with her husband and especially liked Jackson Hole, Wyoming and visiting various places in New England. She was an avid baseball fan and particularly enjoyed watching the Phillies where she could see Bryce Harper play. She adored her friends and neighbors and frequented North Schuylkill sports with football games being her favorite to attend.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Nov. 19.2021 at 11:00 AM from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,N. 9th St. Ashland,PA. Rev. Dana Heckman-Biel officiating. Interment in St. Vincent’s dePaul Cemetery, Frackville, PA. Viewing Friday 10:00-11:00 AM from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
