Mildred Burkey, 89, of Frackville, formerly of McKeansburg passed away Monday January 17, 2022.

Born in Bethlehem, April 24, 1932, She was a daughter of the late Orville and Florence (Appel) Strauss.

She was a worker at several area garment factories.

She was preceded in death by her husband Percy Burkey Sr. and a son Percy Burkey Jr.

Surviving are daughter Marleen Beil of Frackville.

Graveside Services will be held Monday January 24, 2022 at Drehersville Evangelical Cemetery, McKeansburg.

Gary J. Hassenbein, age 63, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 at his home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on April 12, 1958, he was the son of the late Fred and Agnes (Pavlick) Hassenbein.

Gary was a graduate of Saint Clair High School and then earned a Master’s Degree in Education at Kutztown University. He worked as a Math Teacher for Blue Mountain School district for 35 years. Gary was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Pottsville.

Gary is survived by aunt Barbara Donahue, Port Carbon; uncle Richard Hassenbein, St. Clair; his best friend and companion Cuddles; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held private. The Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon is in charge of arrangements.

James P. Caulfield, III
, 26, of Ashland, PA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his home in Buda, TX.

Born in Pottsville, PA on April 18, 1995, the son of James P. Caulfield (wife Stephanie) Frackville, and Cheryl (Harris) Kehoe (husband Joseph ) Ashland.

He was a 2014 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School, and was employed by Defend Your Home, ADT Security, in Buda, TX. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Charles Harris; maternal grandmothers, Joan Harris and Patsy Harris; paternal grandfather, James P. Caulfield, Sr. and his best friend, Josh Molina.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his son, Isaiah James Caulfield, 2, St. Clair.

His son was the apple of his eye and he loved him with all of his heart. His sister, Allison Dower and her husband Josh, Kulpmont; nephews Chase Barlow and Jasper Dower, paternal grandmother Joan Caulfield, Zions Grove; and numerous Uncles, Aunts and cousins.

James' passions and interests were vast. He loved books and was an avid reader. He enjoyed everything about nature and the scenery of his travels, and had a genuine eye for finding the beauty in both. Music was a big part of his life and he enjoyed a wide variety of genres. He found a love for playing guitar, and with his son Isaiah and his own little guitar, would strum, sing and yodel together to their favorite song, Snakes and Waterfalls, by Nick Shoulders. He found a joy in cooking. And while early on he reached out to his mom for advice and recipes, he quickly transformed it into his own and was then the one sharing recipes and teaching her how to cook with cast iron. He shared a special bond with his sister that will last forever. 

 A private celebration of life is being planned and will be held a the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, contributions are being accepted for a custodial account established for James' son Isaiah, to ensure his needs are taken care of.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Suzanne M. "Susie" Hipp, 83, of Pine Grove, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born on April 17, 1938 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy and Thelma Batdorf Fritz.

Susie was a 1956 graduate of Pottsville High School and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Pine Grove.

She was a delivery person for Botts Auto Parts and then was a Medical Assistant and worked at Dr. Dolbin's office.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, Charles "Sonny" Hipp; and two brothers, David L. Fritz and Charles "Sonny" Fritz.

Surviving are three daughters, Michelle and husband Robert Z. Schwalm of Pine Grove, Stacee Hipp and companion Harry Zerbey of Pottsville, Sandee and husband Clyde Riegel, Jr. of Auburn; two grandsons, Cole Schwalm and Luke Schwalm; nieces and nephews; and her cat Brother.

All Services and Interment will be held at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Ruth Steinert SPCA, 18 Wertz Rd., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in her memory.

Laurel Ann Callaway
, 82, passed away Wednesday January 19, 2022 at Providence Place Senior Living of Pine Grove, where she was residing.

Born in Philadelphia, October 17, 1939, She was a daughter of the late Harold E. and Mertie Louise (Stahl) Kerby.

She was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Gerald H. “Jerry” Callaway Sr.

Surviving are son Gerald “Bud” Callaway and his wife Catherine of Lake Wynonah; 2 daughters Kimberly Callaway of Freidensburg; Kelly Runkle and her husband Mark of Lake Wynonah; 4 grandchildren Gerald R. Callaway; Nicole M. Callaway; Tanesha M. Callaway and Ryan M. Runkle; 2 Great Grandchildren Chase Aaron Hoffman and Morgan Rose Hoffman; Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday January 24, 2022 from Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 North Second Street St. Clair, PA 17970. Friends may call from 1:00 -1:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville

Paul J. Balogach
, 75 of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.

Born Friday, August 30, 1946 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the son of John Paul, and Antonette (Yuda) Balogach. Paul was also predeceased by; sister, Diane Balogach; brothers, Richard, Michael, David, and Robert Balogach.

Surviving are; daughters, Lola Bannan wife of Robert of Barnesville, Stacy Stapleton; son, Brandon Balogach; brothers, Gary Balogach, Eugene Balogach and his wife Jessie, Glenn Balogach and his wife Debbie, Dennis Balogach; sisters, Karen DeAngelo wife of Joseph, Antonette Craigle wife of Lon, Veronica Wagner wife of Tod. Many nieces and nephews also survive Paul

A graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Paul was a talented Auto Body Repairman. A pool shark, Paul played in local leagues, and enjoyed driving in his el camino.

William D. Oshman, 69 of Ashland, PA passed away Tuesday, Jan. 18,2022 at his home in Ashland. 

Born in Ashland August 16, 1952 he was the son of the late Charles and Jean (Maurer) Oshman. He graduated from North Schuylkill High School and worked for the Dept. O Corrections, Camp Hill, PA for many years until retirement. He was a United States Navy Veteran.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor “Ellie” Chappell and a niece Wendy. Surviving are a sister Michelle wife of Michael

Ambrose, Pottsville, PA and brother in law Clayton “Jim” Chappell of Shamokin,PA. Services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Brock Cemetery, Ashland, PA

Ruth A. Hutton
, 69, of Weston, passed away Thursday, January 20th, 2022.

Ruth was born in Hazleton, on February 15, 1952, a daughter of the late Eleanor (Houseknecht) and Victor S. Robinson.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry.

Ruth enjoyed going to a shopping at yards sales.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Hutton of Weston, and by their daughters, Julie Hutton, Tiffany Hutton and Jonette Hutton.

Four sisters survive, Evelyn McGolick, Linda Robinson, Vicki Robinson and Donna Hons.

She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Colleen Drumheller, Sara Weikel. and Zachary Niznek, and by 4 great grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler and Alexa Drumheller and Aleeah Weikel, all of whom she adored and enjoyed watching.

The Stauffer-Breznik Funeral home in Ringtown is providing Ruth's family with private services during this time of need.
