Alda J. Howells
, 98 of Pottsville, passed away on Saturday evening at Seton Manor where she had been a resident for 2 ½ years.

Born in Pottsville on October 15, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Helwig) Brady “Brade”.

She was a 1941 graduate of Pottsville Area High School. Alda was a homemaker most of her life.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed sewing, knitting and cooking as well as going to bingo and wintering in LaBelle, Florida. She also enjoyed traveling and going to Lake Wallenpaupack and was a loyal Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband William E. Howells in 1964 and to whom she was married for 6 years; son John J. Howells II in 2006; long time companion Frank C. Cicioni in 2004; brother Robert Brady; sisters Helen Mahlke, Mary Luppino and Janet Jones.

Alda is survived by her daughter Aldajean Howells, fiancé of Daniel Shuman of Pottsville, grandchildren Robert Heffner and companion Celeste Atkins, Kristyn wife of Colby Stewart, Wendy wife of Brandon Harris and William E. Howells, II; great grandchildren Kylah, Carina, Colby, Carter, Hailey, William, Kalib and Luna. Also a sister Elizabeth Jones, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday February 18 at the Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St. Pottsville with Pastor Chris Rothharpt officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 am until the time of the service.

Interment will be private.

The family requests contributions in Alda’s memory be sent to Seton Manor Activities Fund, 1000 Seton Manor Drive, Orwigsburg, PA 17961.

Lawrence “Larry” Russell Zimmerman, 75, of Minersville, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 12, 2022. Born in Delano on August 20, 1946, He was the son of the late Emerson and Dorothy (Kermery) Zimmerman.

Larry attended Mahanoy Area High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Vietnam Service medals.

Following his deployment, he worked as a contractor and prior to retirement he was a Supervisor for North American Industrial Services. In life, Larry enjoyed NASCAR, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also was a member of the Minersville American Legion. His memory will forever be found within a morning coffee and the daily newspaper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Sherry Zimmerman

Surviving are his wife of 52 years Rose (Poploski) Zimmerman, Children, Tammy Zimmerman, MaryJo Munley and her husband Jonathan, and Larry Zimmerman. Granchildren Bretten, Brianna and her husband Steve, Katelin, Kirstin, Ethan, Kaylee Great Grandchildren Griffin, Piper, Hudson, Rowan, and Gabriel.

He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Stacy Ann Murphy, 55, of Minersville, formerly of Brier City, Norwegian Township, passed away on Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.

Born on August 16, 1966 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (Adamick) Pleva. She was a 1984 graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School; and attained her degree in Business Administration from Penn State. She was currently serving as Director of the Literary Council for Schuylkill County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Ronald J. Murphy, Jr., in 2010; two maternal uncles, James and Michael Adamick.

Stacy is survived by two children, Ian Murphy and Drew Murphy, both of Minersville; a grandson, Ian W. Murphy, Jr.; her brother, Stan Pleva, Minersville. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, including Anna Mae Winisko (spouse, Leo), Primrose, Jean Smith (spouse, John), Phoenixville, and Joseph Adamick (spouse, Judy), Florida; numerous cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 135 Spruce Street, Minersville. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka #2 Cemetery, Branch Township. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by the funeral home to assist Stacy’s family.

Colleen D. Gawrylik Harun
, 96 of Shenandoah passed away peacefully on Monday moning, February 14, 2022 at her residence with her devoted family by her side.

Born in Shenandoah on June 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Yachiewicz) Buhowsky.

She was a retired garment worker having last been employed at the former Martin Shirt Factory, Shenandoah. She was a member of the Amalgamated Garment Workers of America.

Colleen was also a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, St. Casimir’s Church and the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed playing bingo and making trips to the local casinos. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husbands, Joseph Gawrylik and Stanley Harun; four brothers, Joseph, Robert, Anthony and Stanley Buhowsky; and one sister, Josephine D. Riley.

Surviving are her two sons, Joseph Gawrylik and his wife Donna of Shenandoah and Dennis Gawrylik and his wife Bonnie of Shenandoah; four grandchildren, Robyn Jordan and her husband Ronald of Frackville, Traci Kowalick and her husband Christopher of Shenandoah Heights, Jason Gawrylik and his wife Dana of Pattersonville and Jessica Perrong and her husband Scott of Shenandoah; nine great-grandchildren, Daniel and his wife Holly, Jordyn, Major, Madisyn, Averi, Savannah, Payton, Lloyd and Kayla; one great-great-granddaughter, Mylee; one brother, Bernard Buhosky of Orefield; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 am in St. Casimir’s Church, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in St. Casimir’s Church.

John J. Gough
, 67, of Kulpmont passed away Sunday February 13th at Geisinger-Danville with his wife by his side.

He was born on August 2, 1954 in Ashland and was the son of Marie (Klassen) and the late John L. Gough.

John was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont.

He was a graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School, Class of ‘72.

John married the former Mary Ann Wysochansky on June 1, 1985 at St. Ignatius Church-Centralia.

He worked as the sexton for St. Mauritius-Ashland for many years and then lastly for Lowe’s Distribution in Highridge.

John was a member of American Hose-Ashland and Knights of Columbus Council # 748. He was an avid Penn-State fan and was a season ticket holder. He loved Alabama, Redskins and Nascar. He enjoyed going out with friends for steak sandwiches and going to block party’s for bleenies. John was also a great Little League pitcher and basketball player.

He was especially fond of his 3 beagles; Joe, Jake and Benny.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his in-laws Alma & Jerry Wysochansky; sister in law Donna Murray; brother in law Robert Wysochansky; brother in law Peter Wysochansky.

John is survived by; mother Marie Gough, Mount Carmel; wife Mary Ann Gough; sister Barbara Gough, Boynton Beach FL and her 2 sons Thomas (Megan) Coombe and Patrick (Jacquie) and their children Phoenix, Riess, and Lennon; brother Michael Gough and his fiancé Marjorie Lally, Bethlehem; several nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and brother/sister in-laws.

A funeral service will be held at on Friday February 18th 2022 at 11AM at the funeral home with Fr. Brian Miller officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 9-11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place following services at St. Mauritius -New Cemetery, Ashland.

Mary Ann Cazonie, 69, of Pottsville and formerly of Minersville, passed away Sunday at her home.

Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late John J and Thelma L. Best Cazonie.

She was educated in the former St. Francis Elementary School and was a 1972 graduate of Minersville Area High School. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Minersville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother David Cazonie in 2018.

She is survived by a sister, Linda Spotts and her husband William, Pottsville; a brother Joseph Cazonie and his wife Marcella, Minersville; 5 nieces and nephews, Jody Nazarian, Steven Spotts, Robert Cazonie, Angela Cazonie and Giovanni Cazonie and a great niece and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10AM in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church of Holy Family Parish. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 8AM to 9:30AM at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Minersville.

William T. Simms Sr., 77, of Ashland, passed away Sunday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill in Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of Howard and Olive Frantz Simms.

He attended the Minersville Schools and was of the Methodist faith. He was retired from the Maintenance Department of the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Rebecca Quinn.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Karen Wythe; a son William Simms Jr. and his wife Janine, Ashland; 2 daughters, Michele Quinn and her husband Dennis, Minersville and Gretchen Lesher, New Philly; 7 grandchildren, Jordan Quinn, Aubrey Quinn, Brady Simms, Taylor Simms, Sara Simms, Emma Lesher and Delilah Lesher; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Adrienne Toler, Schuylkill Haven and a brother Howard Simms, Schuylkill Haven; nieces and nephews.

Private Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville.

Alexander J. Faust
, 29 of Shenandoah, formerly of Pottsville, died Wednesday at home.

He was born January 2, 1993 in Pottsville a son of Randy and Michelle Crutchfield Faust, Reading.

He was a 2012 graduate of Pottsville Area High School and was employed by Hydro Industries, Cressona.

Through out his life Alex loved to cook, play video games, and being on the computer.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Crutchfield.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his children, Roman and Kash Faust, Shenandoah; Elsenia Faust Elysburg; siblings, Destiny Callipari and her husband Domenico, Bayone, NJ; Cienna Faust, Kameron Faust and Trey Faust all of Reading; maternal grandmother, Eleanor Crutchfield, Pottsville; paternal grandparents, Carole Faust, Pottsville; Randall Key, Reading; his fiancé Bridgette Guinther; Shenandoah; step-daughter, Taylor Skoufalous; nieces nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday from 10AM-12PM at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
