Paul H. Umlauf, 85, Ashland, passed away on Friday, February 18th at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill, Pottsville.

Born in Locustdale, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Sarah Strobel Umlauf. Paul was a retired United States Air Force veteran receiving the rank of Technical Sergeant. After the Air Force, he worked as a building contractor.

Paul was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing baseball, fishing and target shooting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Umlauf; a son, Jon Paul Umlauf; his brother George Umlauf; his step-children, Joseph and Caroline Parnell.

Paul is survived by his son Brian Umlauf and his wife Cora; his sister, Sallee Umlauf; his grandchildren, Chandra and Brena; his great-grandchildren, Cora June and Charlie; his friend, Dan Scafransky; several nephews and cousins.

Graveside services with Air Force military honors will be held on Monday, February 28th at 2 p.m. from Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

William John Zigmant, 85, Park Rapids, MN passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Crystal Brook Assisted Living in Park Rapids. 

Bill was born April 25, 1936, in Coaldale, PA to William Sr. and Pauline (Ripko) Zigmant. He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1953. After graduating in 1957 from Pennsylvania Military College (now known as Widener University) he served as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Artillery until 1958. He worked the next 5 years for El Paso Natural Gas Company in Texas then moved to San Francisco, CA where he worked 31 years as Director of Computer Operations and Technical Services for Southern Pacific Railroad. Bill retired in 1995 from IBM Business Partners, Inc. Upon retiring, Bill moved to Park Rapids. He was an active member of the Hubbard United Methodist Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served over 20 years on the Heartland Concert Association board. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and runner and ran over 25 marathons including the Boston Marathon. He enjoyed bicycling, locally, statewide and abroad. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Bobbi Zigmant of Park Rapids; brother, Jim Zigmant and his wife Lynda of Tamaqua, PA; daughter, Karen (Ed) McJay of San Jose, CA; son, Matt (Lynn) Zigmant of Red Bluff, CA; stepdaughter, Rebecca Corbid of Champlin, MN; stepdaughter, Rachel (Keith) Mueller of Nevis, MN; stepson, Kevin (Holly) Corbid of Stillwater, MN; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; nephew, Nick Zigmant of Nesquehoning, PA; and niece, Ashley (Dante) Martire of Macungie, PA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr., and Pauline Zigmant. 

A Memorial Service will be held May 21, 2022, at Hubbard United Methodist Church, Park Rapids, MN.

John F. Neidlinger, Sr.
, 80, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday, February 21st, at St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg, after a courageous battle with Covid-19.

Born in Schuylkill Haven on February 27, 1941, he was a son of the late Harry C. & Sarah A. (Zimmerman) Neidlinger.

He had been separated from Theresa R. Arantowicz.

John had attended Schuylkill Haven schools.

He had been formerly employed as a truck driver; as well as by Dana Corporation as a water quench operator for over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, John is also preceded in death his daughter, Cherylanne C. Neidlinger, brother, Allen H. "Sonny" Neidlinger, and sisters: Martha Rodnick, Alberta Parkhurst, & Jean Yeager.
John is survived by a daughter, Heidi, wife of Brad Givler, of Lenhartsville; two sons, Jack F. Neidlinger, Jr., of Pottsville; & Jason R. Neidlinger, of Schuylkill Haven; a grandson: John F. Neidlinger, III, two brothers, Charles Neidlinger, of Minersville; & James Neidlinger, of Schuylkill Haven, a sister, Shirley Foose, of Schuylkill Haven, and cousins.

John was a big fan of dirt track racing.He would regularly attend races at Big Diamond, and Grandview.He enjoyed helping Dave Dissinger's team.He loved to go to dinner.He enjoyed Liberty Hose Company potpie, and breakfast at Landingville with his friends and his brother.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 28th at Geschwindt Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc.,Schuylkill Haven, with Certified Celebrant, Rebecca D. Devlin officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.

Dr. Rev. Robert G. Hower, 89, of, Carlisle, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at Chapel Pointe At Carlisle, Carlisle PA.

Born in Frackville, September 3, 1932, He was a son of the late Robert and Carolyn (Murphy) Hower.

He was a Minister at Evangelical Congregational Church, Myerstown and Professor at Evangelical School of Theology, Myerstown.

He was preceded in death by wife Joan (Reese) Hower and son Mark C. Hower.

Surviving are daughter Gayle Campbell and her husband Glenn of Carlisle, grandson Jason Campbell and his wife Erin, granddaughter Laura Hower, and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday February 24, 2022 from the Nice- Hart Funeral Home, Inc, 9 North Lehigh Avenue Frackville. The Rev. Stephen Motter and Rev. Bruce Hill will be officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

William J. “Bill” Caulfield, Sr.
, 88 of Shenandoah passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.

Born in Lost Creek on August 6, 1933, he was a son of the late Michael and Anna (Carey) Caulfield.

He was a 1951 graduate of the former Saint Joseph’s High School, Girardville where he was class valedictorian.

Mr. Caulfield was a decorated Korean War army veteran. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Earlier in life, Bill was employed as a mechanic for the former Beres Motors, a Hudson dealer in Shenandoah. He then became manager for the former Bereschak’s Beer Distributor, Shenandoah and in 1977 he became proprietor and the business became known as Caulfield Beer Distributor. He then worked at Pottsville Sanitation and then for Waste Management both in Pottsville until his retirement.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and St. Casimir’s Church, the former AMVETS Post 7, Shenandoah and the former Lost Creek Fire Department and Ambulance. He also served as fire policeman in Lost Creek. He was an officer and committee member for the Pennsylvania Malt Beverage Distributors Association. Bill lived his life by his motto, “service above self”.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Florence A. (Perlinsky) Caulfield on September 11, 2019; one brother, Joseph Caulfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Zelenak; and brother-in-law, Walter McCauley.

Surviving are his daughter and caregiver, Francine Blouch and her husband Keith of Pottsville; his son, William J. Caulfield, Jr. and his fiancé Lori Setcavage of Harrisburg; one brother, Francis Caulfield and his companion Donna Lally of Girardville; one sister, Mary Link and her husband William of Duncannon; sister-in-law, Mary Ann McCauley of Pottsville; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Religious services will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 11:30 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin Street, Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at the funeral home.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, Shenandoah is in care of the arrangements.
