Schuylkill County Organizations Working to Revitalize World War II Monument in Pottsville

Three Schuylkill County groups are joining forces to honor over 160 Veterans who were in the Armed Forces of WWII.

Amvets Post 180 has been trying to maintain what is known as the "West Arch Street WWII Roll of Honor". This monument is located at 11th and Arch Streets in the Pottsville Housing Authority Complex. The Monument has recently fallen into disrepair and needs some updating.

The names of the 167 Veterans have faded away and we do not want their legacy to do the same, so it's time we step up and make this happen. The Monument features names of WWII Veterans in a 4 block radius of the monument. The sign with the names on not only has faded but pieces are missing and the wood backing is completely rotted through in parts.

In conjunction with Dustin's Adventureland and the Local Boy Scouts, the three groups hope to have this all redone prior to the Memorial Day Parade in Pottsville and the unveiling of it prior to the event that day.

Repairs to revitalize the monument are estimated at $7,000, but with the help of Womer Landscaping, Uncle Dunkel Rentals, and Kelly Print and Embroidery the upgrades will cost about  $1,700.

The price tag includes all new custom made aluminum signage to replace existing ones, additional signage to honor the different branches of military, paint and repair fencing, repoint some concrete, pressure wash, lighting, and flower boxes/holder.

The groups have begun a "Sponsor a Soldier" campaign to help them reach their goal goal!

For a cost of $10, you can sponsor 1 of the 167 names on the monument.
