JoAnne M. McCann
, age 82, of Pottsville, PA passed away Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 at Providence Place.

Born in Pottsville, PA on July 30, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Helen D. (Bridge) Carr.

JoAnne was a graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School, Class of 1958. She worked as a Sales Rep at Bell Telephone in Pottsville and then as an office manager for the Mary Queen of Peace Apartments in Pottsville.

JoAnne was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville and devoted her life to her husband and two children and to her Catholic Church where she served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for many years. She became a professed member of the Third Order of the Lay Carmelite Community of Pottsville on January 25, 1997. Joanne was also a scheduled adorer of "Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament", enjoyed attending prayer meetings and retreats throughout the County and at Monocacy Manor, in Bethlehem, PA with her family and friends. She was known for having a loving and compassionate heart for the people in nursing homes, would pray with them and bring residents home for holiday meals. Joanne devoted her life to knowing her faith and touched many family members, friends and strangers by living it.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James A. McCann on August 14, 2014 and a brother Joseph Carr.

JoAnne is survived by two sons: James J McCann and his wife Kim, Virginia and Michael P. McCann and his wife Clarissa, South Carolina; two grandchildren: Benjamin and Alissa; five sisters: Colleen Beltrami, Hazleton, Patricia Kelly, Pottsville, Martina Chwastiak, Orwigsburg, Susan Mamett, Numedia, and Kathy Deatrich, Palo Alto; a brother John (Jack) Carr, Lake Wynonah; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville at 10:30AM on Wednesday, June 1st, with Rev. Phillip Rodgers officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with family on Wednesday morning from 8:30-10:00AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA.

Catherine Chiccini
, age 93, of Port Carbon passed away peacefully, into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022.

Born in St. Clair on October 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Kipling and Elizabeth (Bell) Strausser. She was one of 14 children.

She attended St. Mary's grade school, St. Clair, and St. Stephen's High School in Port Carbon. She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Clair and a previous member of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon. Catherine loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. She loved her dog Riley and previous dogs, Mickey and Poochie. She loved anyone to visit her at anytime. She especially loved Christmas when her family would visit. She had a house full, but loved every minute of the day. Hr family was her life. She had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George (Chuck) Chiccini in 1988, a daughter Roseann Chiccini Hughes in 1980, a sister Jane Mooney, and brothers: John, Bob, Bert, Ron, Ned, and Billy.

Surviving are five sons: George, Mechanicsville, Nick and Richard, both of Port Carbon, Mark, husband of Judy, St. Clair, and Michael, husband of Robin, Landisburg. seven daughters: Rita Murray, wife of Danny, Orwigsburg, Nancy Miske, wife of Randy, Orwigsburg, Barbara Walsh, wife of Jack, Frackville, Paula Maley, wife of John, Port Carbon, Lisa Conville, wife of Jim, Port Carbon, Cathy Manning, companion of Ed Maige, Pottsville, and Marie Galuska, Seltzer. God truly blessed Catherine with 13 children, 28 grandchildren, 40 great- grandchildren, 2 brothers: Jim and Dave Strausser, both of Port Carbon, 4 sisters: Nancy Zimmerman, Beth Runkle, and Mary Flanagan, all of Port Carbon and Sally Yeager, Seltzer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by everyone. God Bless You, we love you.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Clair at 11AM on Thursday, May 26th, with Msgr. William Glosser officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday morning from 9-11AM at the Church.

Interment will be held private for the family in the Queen of the Universe Cemetery in Pottsville.

The Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Stevens, 93, of Norweigan Twp, Pottsville area, passed away Monday, May 24 at LVHN Schuylkill East., Pottsville. 

Rose was born January 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Toba) Kozimer. She was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick, Pottsville. She lived her early years in St. Clair. She attended St. Clair schools and worked in Steranko’s Grocery Store in St. Clair. She was last employed at Schoeneman Beauty Supply. Rose thoroughly enjoyed card games, bingo, and casino’s. She was a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Notre Dame and the New England Patriots. She enjoyed watching both men’s and women’s professional golf. 

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Stevens, her brother, Frank Kozimer, and a son-in-law Kurt Shellhammer. 

Rose is survived by her daughters, Patricia Shellhammer, Pottsville, and Gerri, wife of David Goines Sr., Pottsville. Grandchildren, Scott Goines, MarLin, David Goines Jr., husband of Alison, Pompano Beach, Florida, and Stacey Goines, Schuylkill Haven; Great grandchildren; Karah, Jacob, Logan, Seth, and Cody, and her loyal cat, Minnie. 

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, with calling hours from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc, Minersville A Catholic Burial Service will follow at 10:30 AM with Reverend Leo Maletz officiating. Interment at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ruth Steinert SPCA, 18 Wertz Drive, Pine Grove , Pa. 17963 or the charity of your choice.

Ethel Shirley George, 88, of Minersville, passed away Sunday, May 22nd, at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. 

Ethel was born in Minersville, Pa. on December 31, 1933, a daughter of the late Clara (McClure) and Nelson George. She was of the Episcopalian Faith. Ethel was a long time employee of Messner & Hess Minersville, and then subsequently a clerk at the Rite Aid Kings Village. 

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Kriner, and a niece Paula Kriner. Ethel is survived by nephews, Todd Kriner, Dr. Ronald Kriner, & David Kriner. A niece, Alicia Funderburk. 

A Visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 31st at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. in Minersville, PA. A Religious Service will be held at 10:30 AM with Fr. Kurt Kovalovich officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery
