Mrs. Mora Swab Evans, formerly of Tower City, passed away Monday, May 9, at the age of 98, at Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg.

Born in Elizabethville, Pa., on February 14, 1924, to the late Harold & Dorothy Spittle Swab, Mora Elaine Swab was a 1941 graduate of Porter Township High School and attended Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing.

Mora was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Donald H. Evans, O.D., and by her brother Paul R. Swab of Lebanon, Pa.

While residing in Tower City, Mora was active in the civic life of the community, as a member of the Women’s Club and as a Cub Scout den mother. She also supported her husband’s career through service in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, including serving as the group’s president for a time.

She is survived by her two sons, Donald H. ‘Pete’ Evans, Jr., and wife Barbara of Harrisburg and James R. Evans and wife Leslie Brown of Vashon Island, Wash.; by her beloved grandchildren Suzanne Evans Warner and husband Nevin of Harrisburg, Andrea Evans and boyfriend Jody Evans of Ardmore, and Peter Evans of Portland, Ore.; by two great-granddaughters who delighted her, Morgan and Riley Warner, both of Harrisburg; and by nieces Christina Hagewiesche and Michelle Leibig.

Mora – mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend – will be in our hearts forever. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 10 a.m. at the Dimon Funeral Home, 644 East Grand Ave., Tower City, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. and interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1100 Colonial Rd., Harrisburg, Pa., 17112

June M. (Stein) Trexler
, 82, of Orwigsburg, formerly of Kempton, PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2022. She was the widow of Steward K. Trexler, who passed away in 2005. They were married for 43 years. 

Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Nevin O. and Margaret M. (Moul) Stein. June was a 1958 graduate of Kutztown School District. She was a member of New Bethel Church in Kempton. 

Survivors include her daughter, June Ann “Annie” Trexler and her husband David Hughes of Schuylkill Haven; son, Brian A. (Kimberly) Trexler of Kempton; three grandchildren, Casey (Joshua) Owen, Jairus A. Trexler, and Amber M. Trexler. 

June was predeceased by her companion, John Cole, in 2019. 

June’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway New Tripoli, PA 18066, with a calling hour to begin at 10:00 AM. Rev. Robert Ziehmer will officiate. Interment in New Bethel Union Cemetery, Kempton. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to New Bethel Church, c/o the funeral home address.

Erma Stankavage, 101, of Ringtown, passed away Saturday May 28th, 2022.

Erma was born in East Union Township, on December 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Louellen (Schlauch) and Roy A. Lindenmuth.

A lifelong resident of the Ringtown Valley, she worked in and was retired from the local garment industry, having last been employed by the former Ringtown Manufacturing Company.

Erma was a member of St.John's Lutheran Church in Ringtown. Erma enjoyed atching her favorite televisions shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, along with doing crosswords and puzzles.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Stankavage in 1998, a daughter, Joan Chamberlain in 2001, and by two brothers, Leroy and Reuben.

She is survived by her children, Walter, Joseph and Robert Stankavage and Leona Deibert, along with twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and by nieces and nephews, including Rueben Lindenmuth, her nephew whom she raised.

Erma will be laid to rest alongside her husband following private graveside services at St. Mary's Cemetery, Ringtown

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth A. "Betty" McDonald Stein, 95, Pottsville, on Saturday, May 28th at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, East Norwegian St.

She was the beloved wife of Carl N. Stein who passed away, November 29, 2017.

She was born November 12, 1926 in Girardville, a daughter of the late, Frank A., and Mary L. Kessler McDonald.

Betty Attended Girardville and Butler Township High Schools

Betty was employed by the Heine Knitting Mill and the former Ashland State Hospital, Fountain Springs.

She was a faithful member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and a member of the former Mary Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

She enjoyed flowers, watching shows on Lifetime Movie Network, casinos especially the Tropicana Casino in New Jersey, lottery tickets, and spending time with her family and friends. Betty had also enjoyed going to yard sales and antique automobile shows with her husband Carl.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Joanne; six siblings, Francis McDonald, Gerald McDonald, Ruth Dewey, Mary Daley, Rita Conrad, and Catherine McDonald.

Surviving are two sons, Francis "Frank" Gownley and his wife Kathy, Pottsville; Gerald "Jerry" Gownley and his wife Melissa, Pottsville; grandchildren, Heather Hinchliffe and her husband Steve, Robyn Green wife of the late Dr. Jason Green, Jennifer Dube and her husband James, Adam Gownley and his companion Giusi Giunta; 8 great-grandchildren, Connor, Gavin, Jonathan, Carter, Emma, James, Keegan and Matthew; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Thursday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9-10:30AM. Thursday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Betty be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will follow at St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville.
