Nancy Marie Hess, 97, of Hometown, PA died on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in Coaldale, PA. She was the wife of the late George C. Hess who died in 1998. 

Born in Dayton, Ohio on March 22, 1925, Nancy was a daughter of the late James V. and Dora (DeFrancesco) Fiorini. A 1943 graduate of Tamaqua High School, she was the proprietor of Nancy’s Beauty Shoppe in Tamaqua. Nancy was a member of The Parish of St. John XXIII in Tamaqua and the Tamaqua Senior Citizens. 

She is survived by son, George J. Hess and his wife Kathleen of Apex, NC; grandsons, Michael Hess and his wife Maren and David Hess and his wife Ashley; great grandchildren, Ben Hess, Alex Hess, Lilly Hess, and Prestyn Hess; and sister, Betty Machamer of McLean, VA. 

Private family services will be held. Memorials in Nancy’s name may be made to the donor’s choice. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Regina K. "Jean" Behm, 93, of Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born on January 24, 1929 in Heckscherville, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Campion Brennan.

She was a member of the Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Tremont.

Jean was a Co-Owner and Operator of Behm's Restaurant in Tremont.

She enjoyed doing puzzles and word searches

Preceding her in death were her husband, John G. Behm; five sisters, Margaret Brennan, Elizabeth Holohan, Mary Renninger, Helen Gottschall, and Theresa McGann; two brothers, John Brennan and James Brennan.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Behm of Pine Grove and Michael Behm of Greenville, N.C; two grandsons, Brody Behm and Ean Behm; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Most Blessed Trinity Parish, 113 Cherry St., Tremont with Father Johnson officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Interment will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A procession to the cemetery will leave the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. Pine Grove promptly at 9:15 A.M. on Thursday. Anyone wishing to follow should be at the Funeral Home by 9:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Most Blessed Trinity Parish, 113 Cherry St., Tremont, PA 17981 in her memory.

Matushka Lovey Ropitsky
, of Frackville, passed away Sunday morning, June 12th at her residence.

Born in Olyphant she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Truhan Horhutz. She was a graduate of Olyphant High School

Lovey was a devout member of the Orthodox Church; she assisted her husband, the Very Rev. Paul Ropitsky with services and helped prepare the church for worship. She was involved in many church activities, she sang in the choir and helped with making pierogies and other specialties for the church festivals; they supported the local organizations in the communities they served.

She loved her family, she took pride in taking care of her home, she enjoyed cooking, baking and decorating for the holidays, making it a warm and happy place.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers

Lovey is survived by her husband the Very Rev. Paul Ropitsky and son Michael Ropitsky, Frakville; a niece and several nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Coaldale, with the Very Rev. James Weremedic, as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening with Parastas at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Coaldale. Interment will be in All Saints Orthodox Cemetery, Peckville.

All are asked to follow CDC guidelines with wearing masks and following social distancing when attending visitation and religious services.

Janet H (Scheib) Costa
, age 69, of Hegins, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at her residence.

She was born on Sunday, July 20, 1952, in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late Ralph A Scheib and the late Helen Fetterolf Neugard Scheib.

She was a 1970 graduate of Central Dauphin East High School and a 1973 graduate of the former Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing.

She retired as a night shift nursing supervisor at Lehigh Valley East Hospital , Pottsville .

She was a member of Calvary Chapel, Valley View.

Known by all of us as "Nenny", Janet loved going to her grandchildren's activities, being outdoors, camping, and attending concerts. Janet loved God and was a shining example of a faithful follower. She put others needs ahead of her own, and was a wonderful caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Milo Charlie Unger Costa, and brother, Alvin Scheib.

She is survived by her husband Richard J Costa, to whom she was married for 49 years.

She is also survived by two daughters, Sarah E Carl and her partner Brian Kunkel of Orwigsburg, and Laura B Costa and her partner Adam J Wolfgang of Sacramento; three sons, Jonathan D Costa and his partner Jessica Palmquist Hughes of Signal Hills, CA, Richard J Costa, Jr and his wife Jennifer of Valley View, and Adam N Costa of Hegins; grandchildren, Hilary, Robyn, and Myah Wehry, Annabella, Kami, Alexander, and Lydian Costa, Cadence Costa-Wolfgang, Dylan Unger, and Ryley Hixenbaugh; a sister, Mae Jones of Milton; two nieces, Karen Martello and Kathleen Keller; and her mother in law, Dorothea Haidle.

Funeral services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Jonathan Hikes officiating.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Spring Glen.

Geraldine H. Ney
, 85, of Shenandoah, PA, passed away Thursday, June 16th, 2022.

Geraldine was born in Turkey Run, on December 24, 1936, a daughter of the late Sophie (Zuber) and Peter Bejacko.

She was a 1954 graduate of the former J.W. Cooper high school, and worked in the local garment industry.

Geraldine was a member of the Greater Area Shenandoah Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ney in 1983, and by a daughter, Nina, in 2019.

She is survived by a son Albert Ney, and his wife Brenda of Shenandoah; daughter Gerry Lynn, wife of John Campanicki, of Pattersonville and daughter Sherry Ann Szemplenski, of Atica, NY.

She is also survived by 3 grandsons, Anthony, Jeremiah, and Zachary Ney and by a great granddaughter, Delainey Ney.

A Funeral Service will be held at the 12 Noon on Saturday, June 25th at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 West Main Street, Ringtown. Visitation with Geralidines family will be from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Alyce Jusinski
, 79, of Phinneyville, passed away Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus.

Alyce was born in East Rutherford, NJ on December 1, 1942, a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Cheslock) and Charles Burke.

Always wanting to care for people, she was employed in various areas in the medical field, from working in area pharmacies, to being a home health aide.

She was a creative person who loved crafting and doing ceramics, and she was an avid gardener, both flowers and vegetables.

In addition to her parents, Alyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Jusinski, in 1992.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Rudden and by brothers, Charles, Raymond and Robert Burke.

Alice is survived by her children, her daughter Inez Stevens, of Phinneyville and her son William Jusinski, of Weston.

She is survived by grandchildren, Billy Jusinski, Lynn Jusinski-Ellingsworth and Zechariah Jusinski. Nieces and nephews survive, including Carol Burke and her family. Alyce also leaves behind her cat, Cora, who she adored.

Alyce will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the Girard Manor Cemetery, Phinneyville, during private family services.

Andrew P. “Butch” Rose, 78, of Minersville, passed away Saturday, June 11th, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. 

Andrew was born in Pottsville, Pa. on October 19, 1943, a son of the late Gladys (Barton) and Frank Rose. He was the husband of Elaine (Brown) Rose. He was a graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School & served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Butch was an Officer of the Minersville Police Department for 20 years. He was then a Salesman at Sands Ford of Pottsville and worked at CHAMPS Fitness, Kings Village. He became an avid weightlifter first starting in the summer of 1979 in the basement of the home of his friend Mark. He was a mainstay at The Minersville Power Plant from 1981 to 1992 and continued to “work out” throughout the years through the different ownerships of the gym at Kings Village. Butch enjoyed having gatherings at his home, going to shore, and listening to “The King”, Elvis Presley. He was also an avid lover of dogs having many through the years. 

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by Sisters, Barbara Rose, and Gail Rose, and a brother, Frank "Fritzie" Rose. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, two daughters, Kimberly, wife of Brian Goodwin, Jenny wife of Scot Schafer. 

He is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Spirko, and Rose Kuehn, three brothers, James Rose, William, husband of Jackie Rose, and Robert Rose. 

Also surviving are grandchildren, Benjamin Goodwin, Shayne Shafer, Dawson Shafer, Nephew Michael, husband of Michelle Rose, Great nephew Matthew Rose, Niece, Kalena Hale, nephew Ryan Hale, Sister in law Diane Hale, numerous other family members and many friends. 

A Visitation will be held 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, June 28th at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Hillside SPCA 5 S.P.C.A. Rd. Pottsville, Pa,. 17901. Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville entrusted with the arrangements.

Dennis R. Kalish
, 76, of Tamaqua, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Paulette (Paukovits) Kalish. 

Prior to retiring, he was employed as a line mechanic for over 30 years at Kraft Foods, Fogelsville. Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Vincent and Hazel (McMichael) Kalish. He was of Protestant faith. Dennis was a member of the Tamaqua Rifle and Pistol Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Robert Kalish and his wife, Stephanie, of Charlotte, NC, Michael Davis, and his wife Roxanne, of New Tripoli, Eric Davis, and his wife, Allison, of Walnutport, and Todd Davis, of Tamaqua; a daughter, Denise, wife of Donald Ressler, of New Ringgold; six grandchildren, Chandler, Deidra, Madison, Jack, Logan, and Ethan. 

A memorial visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8pm on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold. Private service for the family. Contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Margaret Mary Bernadyn
, 91, of Mahanoy City, PA passed away Thursday, June 16 at Shenandoah Senior Living Community, Shenandoah.

Margaret was born in Mahanoy City on February 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Kurtz) Peel.

She was employed at City Shirt, Mahanoy City, for three years and was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker thereafter. She was an avid chef and baker, who loved watching the news and keeping up with current events. She also enjoyed exercising at home so that she could remain physically fit. She enjoyed reading about bears and traveling to Wyoming, Montana, California, and New York State with her family.

She was predeceased, in addition to her parents by her loving husband Louis Bernadyn; five brothers, Elmer, Michael, Jack, George, and Joseph Peel; and four sisters, Josephine Hylan; Rose Luke; Florence Zaborsky and Mary Peel.

Surviving are two daughters, Lorraine Bernadyn, Frackville, PA and Jane Bernadyn and husband Brian Bradway, Norwood, PA. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City at 10 am on Monday, June 20th, with Rev. Kevin Gallagher officiating.

Friends and family may call on Monday from 9am to 10am at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish.

Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery, Mahanoy City, PA.
