Thomas “Tomo” Downey, 63, Girardville passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19th at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown.

Born in Girardville, he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Helen A. Brennan Downey. Tomo was a 1976 graduate of the former Cardinal Brennan High School.

Tomo worked as a claims adjuster for the Veterans Administration in Philadelphia, where he met the love of his life, Deborah in 1987. After leaving Philadelphia and moving back to Girardville, Tomo worked as a general laborer having worked for Our Lads Beer Distributor in Ashland for over 30 years.

Tomo was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Notre Dame fan. One of his favorite moments was finally witnessing the Eagles win the Superbowl. He enjoyed traveling to the Poconos, fishing, playing pool, watching sci-fi alien tv shows, cooking on the grill, drinking Miller High Life and most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Catherine “Kiki” Downey and his brother John Downey.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Downey, Girardville with whom he was married to for 27 years; his son, Warren Teasley, Girardville; his two daughters: Mercedes Teasley, Philadelphia and Margaretanne Finlan, Girardville; his grand-daughter, Aaliyah Teasley; his god-daughter, Bridget Gaughan and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 9th at the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Girardville with Fr. Giuseppe Esposito, officiating. Friends are invited to his visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made to help defray funeral costs to Deborah Downey at 365 W. Preston Avenue, Girardville, PA 17935.

Joseph A. Romano
, husband, father brother, pop, of Arlington Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at home surrounded by his family, and in the tender care of his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret K. "Marge" (Kubilus) Romano at 87 years of age.

Born Thursday, October 25, 1934 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. the son of the late Angelo, and Theresa Rose "Rose" (LaBella) Romano. Joe was also predeceased by; infant sister, Cecilia Romano.

In addition to his wife he is survived by; daughters, Teresa Kester and her fiancé Greg, Michelle Barron wife of Duane, Marie Sottosanti; brother, Angelo Romano and his wife Diane; grandchildren, Kyle Kester and his wife Amanda, Dr. Jerome Barron and his wife Amber, Erika Davis and her husband Matthew, Nico Sottosanti and his fiancée Lex, Dominique Sottosanti; great grandchildren, Gina Kester, Kendall, and Calvin Davis, Aiden, and Dominic Barron. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good neighbors.

A 1953 graduate of St. Jerome High School, Joe was star basketball player and captain of his St. Jerome Team the "Jerries" averaging 25 pts. per game and scored 909 total points in his senior campaign. Joe was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Entering the United States Army in 1954, Joe continued his athletic career playing basketball, softball, and boxing in the Army while serving with the Military Police. Returning home, Joe went to work for the former Atlas Powder Co. of Reynolds, retiring from I,C.I Industries. He was a member of St. John XXIII R.C.C. of Tamaqua.

In retirement, Joe enjoyed trips to the casino, and time spent with his beloved Margie, savoring her cooking. He so enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events, and would "lite-up" when his great grandchildren visited. Joe was a Philadelphia Phillies, and Penn State Football fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 25, 2022 at 11 o'clock A.M. from St. Jerome R.C.C. 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.

Friends may call on Thursday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until10:30 A.M..

Interment St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua Pennsylvania. Military Honors to be bestowed.

Robert L. "Pugs" Bankes
, 60, of Nuremberg, passed away Friday, August 19th, 2022, at the home of his daughter in Ashland.

Bob was born in Pottstown, on January 12, 1962, a son of the late Leila (Yost) and Ralph Bankes.

He moved to the Nuremberg area in his younger years, and was a 1972 graduate of the West Hazleton High School.

Bob owned and operated his own trucking company for several years and was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, shooting and fishing. He also enjoyed automobile racing, and playing darts and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by two children, daughter Kristina, wife of Eric Lavin, of Ashland, and son Robert L. Bankes, Jr., of Nuremberg. Three grandchildren, Briann, Chase and Austin also survive as do nieces and nephews.

A brother Ralph Bankes and a sister Grace Fellin also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 22nd at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 West Main Street, Ringtown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing Monday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Bob will be laid to rest at the Nuremberg Cemetery, following the service.

Adeline L. Miller, 91, Academy Lane, Ashland, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, shortly after admission to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, East Norwegian St., Pottsville. 

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.
