Joseph H. Murton, 72, of Lewisburg and formerly of Lock Haven, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday while camping Black Moshannon State Park in Centre County, PA, with his companion, Nancy Hazlinsky.

Born in Pottsville, on May 22, 1950, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Rolenitus) Murton.

He graduated from Nativity BVM, Pottsville, Class of 1968; studied Liberal Arts at Wilkes University, Class of 1969; graduated from Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1977; studied Biological Sciences at Saint Vincent College, Class of 1983; and studied Podiatric Medicine and received his DPM from Temple University, Class of 1987. He had a private podiatric practice in Lock Haven, PA, from 1987 to 2013.

Joseph started his career as a Registered Nurse in Pottsville and then practiced Podiatry in his own practice in Lock Haven for several years. He returned to being an RN Supervisor at in 2014 at Manor Care Health North, Williamsport PA and its successor Williamsport North Rehabilitation and Nursing Center until his time of death.

He had a long love of traveling to state and national parks where he enjoyed his favorite hobby, geocaching. He collected patches and stamps from the state and federal parks he visited. He loved spending time outdoors and being in the woods. He purchased a motor home last year and was planning future trips across the country with his companion and their two cats.

Joseph was very dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America having earned his Eagle Scout Award with Troop 15 at St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville and then served as Scout Master there for a time and later in Clinton County, where he also served on the local Boy Scout Council for many years. He led many Scouts to earn the Catholic Religious Awards in BSA and was involved with Indian Run District leadership. While Scout Master he encouraged and led many outdoor activities for the Scouts in his troop, including summer camping at Camp Shikellamy and Camp Nisatin. Joseph was last involved with the Susquehanna Council of BSA. He still continued to collect Boy Scout patches from troops around the country.

He was a member of the Reading Buccaneer Drum and Bugle Corp, where he played the bass drum and continued to remain active with their Alumni.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Francis A. (Cook) in 1994; and brother, George A. Murton in 2021.

Joseph is survived by a son, Matthew W. Murton, of Pottsville; a sister, Kathleen T. Walters, of Orwigsburg; granddaughter, Ashlynn N. Fuller; and Nancy Hazlinsky, his companion of 13 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Father Phil Rodgers as celebrant. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church.

Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.

Shirley J. Tobin
, 87, of S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Sch. East, Pottsville.

Born on July 30, 1935 in Donaldson, she was a daughter of the late Bruce "Topper" and Ethel Schaeffer Wetzel.

She was a 1952 graduate of Frailey Twp. High School.

Shirley was a Seamstress for the former Summit Station Mfg., Pine Grove.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove and a social member of the Pine Grove VFW.

Shirley loved camping.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, Clarence R. Tobin, Sr. and a son Bruce Tobin.

Surviving are two sons, Clarence "Barney" Tobin, Jr. and Scott Tobin, both of Pine Grove; three grandchildren, Carly Tobin, Toby Tobin, Sarah and husband Matt Lopez; one great grandchild Callie Heim.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. from the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc, Pine Grove, with Pastor Brian Beissel officiating. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Jacob's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 312 S. Tulpehocken St. Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in her memory.

Gary R. McCall
, 66, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 at his residence.

Gary was born in Pottsville on May 26, 1956, a son of the late Kay (Spotts) and Robert McCall. He was a graduate of the Pottsville High School.

Gary was a hard working man who worked in the construction industry, prior to working for and retiring from the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville.

He was a fan of all things Philadelphia, including the Eagles and Phillies, along with Penn State football.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara (Colitz) McCall, along with his children, a daughter Eileen, wife of Ed Yorty , of Waynesburg; and a son Michael McCall, of Pottsville.

He is also survived by two brothers, Robert McCall, and his wife Jackie and Jeff McCall, and his wife Linda , both of Pottsville.

A grandson Erik survives, as do nephews Matthew and Mark, and a niece Abbie, along with and extended family of in laws and close friends, all of whom he treasured dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing which will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, September 29th at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 515 West Market Street, Pottsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA.

Isabel Watkins West
, 90, of Barnesville passed away Wednesday September 21, 2022 at Providence Place Senior Living, Pottsville.

Born in St. Clair, November 11, 1931, She was a daughter of the late Michael and Sophie (Kozar) Pushcarovich.

Isabel, a Penn State grad, was the founder and Executive Director of Schuylkill County Easterseals, Frackville and also Owner/Operator of Ken’s Kreamy Kone, Frackville.

She was a member of Christ UCC, Barnesville, PA; former member of St. Michael Orthodox Church, St. Clair; Eastern Star; Past President of Frackville Women’s Club and Frackville Library Board.

She was active in the Republican Party at both the local and national level working for many campaigns, served as a campaign manager and was a Pennsylvania delegate to the Republican National Convention. She was rewarded for her service with honorary mementoes from past Presidents.

An avid Bowler, she also enjoyed playing cards, especially 500 Rummy, and loved doing word searches insisting that they kept her mind sharp.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel West; 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving four sons Kent Watkins and his wife Dr. Janine of Port Carbon; Kevin Watkins and his wife Cindy of Laurys Station; Kyle Watkins of Barnesville and Kirk Watkins of Conshohocken; 7 Grandchildren (Joshua, Jeremy, Brian, Rhys, Celeste, Kyler and Kian) 1 Great Grandchild Michael; Nieces and Nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday September 30, 2022 from Christ UCC, 132 Church Rd. Barnesville, PA 18214 with The Rev. Josh Nemeth officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Easterseals 1501 Lehigh St, Suite 201

Allentown, PA 18103. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
