Kerry Allan Spiess
, age 36, of Pottsville, PA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown.

Born in Pottsville, PA on August 5, 1986, he was the son of Gregory A. and Donna M. (Ditzler) Spiess of Pottsville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his three daughters: Savanah, Elaina, and Alivia Spiess and siblings.

Funeral Services will be held private.

Xander Michael Skoutelas - Kern
, 23 years of age of Lake Hauto Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Born Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Justin Kern and Gina Skoutelas - Kern with whom he resided; Xander is also survived by; brother, Spencer S. Skoutelas - Kern; maternal grandmother, Elsie Skoutelas; paternal grandfather, Larry Kern.

Xander was predeceased by his brother, Gavin M. Skoutelas - Kern.

A 2018 graduate of Panther Valley High School, Xander was a member of the wrestling and football team. Xander served as a member of the United States Marine Corp, and most recently worked for Graham Packaging of Hazleton. An avid outdoorsman, Xander enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. A fitness buff, Xander recently began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai to compete in Mixed Martial Arts.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday evening December 13, 2022 with viewing hours starting at 5pm and funeral service at 7 o'clock P.M. from the funeral home.


Private Interment will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, Pennsylvania.

Kathleen G. Hohman
, 100, formerly of Pottsville, died peacefully Tuesday at Pinebrook Personal Care, Orwigsburg.

She was born July 20, 1922 in Tuscarora a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Mary A. Shannon Gallagher.

She was a 1940 graduate of Blythe Township High School.

Kathleen was employed as a switch board operator at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville, for 21 years prior to retiring.

Kathleen was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Catholic Women’s Union, Retirees Club of the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, and the Ladies of Charity. She was also a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Hospital and later Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St.

She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Hohman in 2001; 2, grandchildren, Patrick and Jason Hohman; 1 great-grandchild Mackenzie Blair; 2 sisters, Bernadette Mastrocola and Mary Sherbinko.

Surviving are her 4 sons, John J. Hohman and his wife Kathie, Spotswood, NJ; Joseph Hohman, Orwigsburg; Gerard Hohman and his wife Cathy, Enterprise AL; Christopher Hohman and his wife Marlene, Pottsville. 11 grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11AM from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Kevin J. Bobbin as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30AM until the time of mass at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Kathleen be made to St. John Memorial fund 913 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or to the Mackenzie Blair Foundation, P.O. Box 545, Jackson, NJ 08527 which is a foundation in memory of her great-granddaughter to bring awareness to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Interment will follow in St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville.

Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Irma Loy Fessler
, 87, of Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in Providence Place, Pine Grove.

Born on February 13, 1935 in Deturksville, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Alma Moyer Loy.

She was a member of St. Mark's (Brown's) Church, Schuylkill Haven, where she was former treasurer of the Willing Workers and was previously a 50 year member of Hetzel's UCC. She was also a member of the Pine Grove Senior Citizens.

Irma retired from the former Fox Knapp in Pine Grove after 42 years.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and hosting family picnics.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 41 years, Kenneth H. Fessler; three brothers, Ivan, Dennis, and Robert Loy; and two sisters, Helen Readinger and Edna Mae Krammes.

Surviving are her Godchild, Jessica and husband Mark Walters of Auburn; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Pastor Eugene Eckroth officiating. There will be a viewing on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the St. Mark's (Brown's) Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to either St. Mark's (Brown's) Church, c/o Tim Shadler, 958 Schwartz Valley Rd., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972 or Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care 1001 James Drive Suite B-34, Leesport, PA 19533 in her memory.

Emma H. Wolfe
, 96, of Hemlock Lane, Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in Providence Place, Pine Grove.

Born on September 8, 1926 in Pine Grove, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Bertha Reinhart Wolfe.

Emma was a Cook and Owner of the Mansion House in Pine Grove.

She was a member of the Pine Grove Senior Citizens.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Annie Batz, Ethel Moyer, Mae Zimmerman; and five brothers, Norman, Clayton, Arthur, Allen, and Ernest Wolfe.

Surviving are a sister Cora Miller and a brother Thomas Wolfe, both of Pine Grove; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services and interment will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a procession to the cemetery leaving the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. Pine Grove at 9:15 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Pine Grove Senior Citizens, and be mailed to Pine Grove Senior Citizens c/o Mary Zimmerman, 22 Carbon St., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in her memory.

Alan A. Shinkus
, 73, Frackville, passed away suddenly Tuesday at his residence.

Born in Ashland he was a son of the late Francis M. and Mary A. Hauslyak Shinkus. He had been employed in construction for Pensy Supply.

He was a US Navy veteran of the Viet Nam war.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Georgine Yeneskie Shinkus and a brother Vaughn Shinkus.

Alan is survived by three sons; Alan and his wife Amy Shinkus, Fleetwood, Anthony Shinkus, Frackville and Adam Shinkus and his companion Quanita Britt, Arnodts Addition, St. Clair, his brother Michael (Marian) Shinkus, Frackville and his three Grandchildren; Alex, Austin and Aiden Shinkus, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11 a.m.

Agnes L. (Aggie) Fessler, 91, of Orwigsburg, died Tuesday, December 6th, at Orwigsburg Center.
Agnes was born in Filbert, PA on July 28, 1931, a daughter of the late Catherine Margaret Pahula.
She was the widow of John W. Fessler and a member of First United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven.

She was the owner and operator of Enterprise Homes Inc. & Enterprise Novelty.

Aggie is survived by her daughter, Cathy, wife of Tim Burian, of Orwigsburg.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Diane Fessler on November 15, 1964.
Services are private and entrusted to the Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Orwigsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ 110 Route 61 South Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.

Kathryn M. “Kat” Shermer, 64, Girardville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at her residence.

Born in Doylestown she was a daughter of the late George and Doris DeLaroy Madara. In her younger years she trained and showed horses and later was employed as a sales manager in the automotive Industry.

She graduated from Bucks County Community College with an associate degree.

Kat always referred to herself as I’m an Irish Gypsy.

She is survived by her daughter Shane L. Martin and her wife Ryanne Martz, New Braunfeld, TX.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Girardville, is in charge of arrangements.
