Theresa M. Tuite, 73 of Pottsville, died Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, East Norwegian St.

She was born December 27, 1949 in Pottsville a daughter of the late Basilio A. and Anges I. Benedict DeMartino.

She was a 1968 Graduate of Pottsville Area High School.

She worked at Brok-Sel, Pottsville, prior to retiring.

Theresa was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph H. Tuite, on July 25, 2016; 2 brothers, James “Irish” Benedict and Joseph DeMartino; 2 sisters, Josephine Hillman and Rosemarie Nesbitt.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Martin, New Hampshire; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 1PM Thursday May 4th, at St. Bertha Cemetery, Tuscarora. The family would prefer remembrances in memory of Theresa be made to St. John Memorial Fund, 913 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901 or National Kidney Association, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Jeremy W. Smith, 46, of Pottsville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 27th.

All services and interment will be private.

Robert J. McCord Sr., 89, of Ashland, passed away, surrounded by family, Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Geisinger Shamokin Community Hospital, Coal Township.

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Patricia L. Phillips
, 86 of Pottsville, died peacefully Sunday April 23rd at The Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.

She was born April 16, 1937, in Pottsville a daughter of late Daniel “Dap” and Millie Collins Stone.

She was a 1955 graduate of Pottsville High School and the former Franklin Academy, Pottsville.

She worked for many years at the former Miners National Bank as a secretary in the Personal Loan Department and later bookkeeping of Schoenemen Corporation as a secretary in the Beauty Equipment Department.

Pat was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville where she was active in Senior Travelers, Craft Class where she was leader, Circle 5 where she was secretary, ding-a-ling bell choir, and a life member of the National PTA’s . She was also past President and Secretary of the former Race St. School PTA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony “Tony” Phillips, 2002; a daughter, Elaine Janette Phillips; 2 sons, Anthony Phillips and Daniel Phillips; a sister, Lois Stone; a son in law, Kevin Bogan.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Cindy Thomas, and her husband Scott, Palo Alto; Lois Bogan, Rehoboth, DE; Tricia Shaffer and her husband Robert, Pottsville; a daughter in law Sandy Myro and her husband Michael, Orwigsburg. 10 Grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30AM Wednesday May 3rd, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, with Rev. Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and Friends are invited to a viewing from 8:30-10:15AM the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Pat be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Arrangements are under care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

James K. “Jim” Steidle
, 79, of Pottsville, longtime teacher and coach at Pottsville Area High School, died Friday, April 21st, surrounded by his family, at Linden Village Memory Care Facility, Lebanon where he had been a resident for the past 17 months.

Jim was born November 19, 1943 in Pottsville a son of the late Lloyd H. Sr. and Alma Deibler Steidle.

He was a 1961 graduate of Pottsville High School where he played baseball and basketball. He graduated from West Chester University and returned to Pottsville where he began his 45-year teaching and coaching career for Pottsville Area High School, prior to retiring.

Between 1968 and 2010, he coached varsity baseball, amassing a record of 574 victories, including 7 Schuylkill League and 4 District 11 Championships. Simultaneously, for 15 years, he coached varsity basketball, recording 277 wins 7 Schuylkill League and 3 District 11 Championships. He was personally most proud to have mentored 7 young men towards signing major league baseball contracts, and being immortalized by having the Pottsville Area High School baseball field named in his honor

Jim was member of the Pottsville Area High School All Sports Hall of Fame and the District 11 Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Catherine Ash Steidle; 2 brothers, Lloyd H. Steidle, Jr., and Bobby Steidle.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Lamb “Lynn” Steidle, a former Philadelphia girl who had no knowledge of or interest in sports but married into the family anyway. Together they raised 3 children, James Tyler “Ty” Steidle and his wife Lindsey, Pottsville; Michael Steidle and his wife Diedre, Katy, TX; Elizbeth “Beth” Ciavarella, and her husband Harry, Pottsville; grandchildren AJ, Emily, Zane and Maddie Steidle, Pottsville; Aiden and Noah Steidle, Katy, TX; Harrison, Ava and Alexandra Ciavarella, Pottsville; a step-sister, Rev. Kathleen Ash-Flashner, Maine; a step-brother, William Ash, New Tripoli; nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family would like to acknowledge and thank his caregivers at Linden Village, where he was affectionately known as “Coach” for their unconditional love and expectational care they provided to him during his residency there and his final transition.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Saturday, May, 6th at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9-10:45AM at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Jim be made to the James K. Steidle Memorial Fund, C/O Howard S. Fernsler Academic Center, 1501 Laurel Blvd Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
