21st Annual Schuylkill United Way "Stuff the Bus" Campaign is Underway

It's July, so that means it's time for the Schuylkill United Way Stuff the Bus campaign.
It starts in late spring with calls to the Partner Agencies of Schuylkill United Way (SUW), all Schuylkill County schools, and to local organizations that serve children in our community. It’s at this time that the Schuylkill United Wway asks how many backpacks, stuffed with new school supplies, each group needs to help their students have a successful start to the next school year.

For 21 years, the Schuylkill United Way has run a school supply drive throughout the month of July. On the afternoon of the first Friday of August, volunteers gather at the Salvation Army – Pottsville Corps to sort the thousands upon thousands of donated supplies. The following Monday sees more volunteers arriving and stuffing new backpacks with the sorted supplies. Each Agency, school, and organization then picks up the generous donations.

Each backpack will contain crayons, pencils (donated by Mid-Penn Bank), pens, erasers, folders, notebooks, colored pencils, glue sticks, pencil pouches, scissors, highlighters, hand sanitizer (donated by Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital & St. Luke’s Hospital - Miners Campus), tissues (donated by Lehigh Valley Hospital - Schuylkill), dry erase markers and a miscellaneous item.

Marketing Director Rebecca Woods said "The Schuylkill United Way is excited to host this program again this year!  Stuff the Bus is possible only because of the generosity and dedication of all involved. The support we are receiving from the community is truly overwhelming."

"We are extremely grateful to the companies and individuals who donate supplies to this great cause."
