Paul J. Banaszewski
, 74, of Harrisburg passed away Monday July 10, 2023, at UPMC-Harrisburg.

Born in Shenandoah April 26, 1949, he was a son of the late Anne Marie (Yancius) and Anthony E. Banaszewski.

A graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School, Paul voluntarily enlisted and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He continued serving his country working for 35 years at the New Cumberland Army Depot.

Paul was a lifelong hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was extremely generous and kind of heart accompanying the Harrisburg First Assembly of God Church on missionary trips to countries including Russia, Panama, Nepal and Turkey. His Faith was a large part of his life. He was always willing to help anybody and everybody.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Banaszewski.

Surviving are 3 sisters, Antoinette Banaszewski of Shenandoah, Ann Banaszewski of Shenandoah, Mary Fore and her husband Ron of Shenandoah, 2 brothers Joseph Banaszewski and his wife Kelly of Collegeville, Anthony Banaszewski and his wife Patti of Kensington, MD. Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM from the Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., 9 North Lehigh Avenue, Frackville, PA. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 AMat the funeral home.

Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Casimir Cemetery, Shenandoah.

Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Marie A. Bonkowski
, 75, formerly of West Poplar Street, Shenandoah passed away peacefully early Monday morning, July 10, 2023, at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah on September 22, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Bonkowski, Sr. and Rose Ann B. (Kiskierewicz) Bonkowski.

Rose Marie was a 1965 graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School. She then graduated from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing, Reading.

She was a registered nurse and worked in medical facilities and hospitals in Philadelphia, Atlantic City and Boston.

Rose Marie was a devout member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly St. Stanislaus Church. She was also a member of the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens.

She was a loving daughter and Cioci. Rose Marie was a warm and caring person with strong faith. She endured much in life but always made the best of any situation that she faced. She enjoyed the many trips with her mother to Las Vegas; she also enjoyed the trips to Atlantic City, the local casinos and to destinations near and far with the seniors. Rose Marie loved her music, she not only enjoyed listening to her favorite tunes, but also singing along to them as well. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family especially during the holidays. Her quick-witted personality was memorable and will be missed. She is now reunited with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her brother, Edward J. "Bunker" Bonkowski, Jr.

Surviving are her caregivers, her nephew and niece, James “Jim” Bonkowski of Shenandoah Heights and Nicole "Nikki" Bonkowski of Shenandoah Heights; her great-niece, Danielle DiNofa of Shenandoah Heights; her sister-in-law and caregiver, Janice Bonkowski Gaudreau of Shenandoah Heights; cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family with interment in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will officiate. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah is in care of the arrangements.

George E. Pennington
, 82, of Kelayres and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Sunday morning at his home with his loving wife by his side, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George and Helen V. (Bartlett) Pennington.

He was a graduate of West Catholic Boys High School, Philadelphia.

George served in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Man Second Class in the crypto department during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Turkey. After his military discharge he entered into the police academy.

George began his lifetime law enforcement career with the Philadelphia Police Dept as a patrol officer and eventually working his way up within the department. He served as the commanding officer and administrative aide to the Executive Officer of the Sex Crimes Unit. He was responsible for investigative reports and developed various training programs for interviewing techniques and criminal analysis. George was responsible for the development of a computerized data-based file that became a model throughout the department. He retired after 22 years of service.

George began a second career with the Kline Twp. Police Dept. as an officer and retired as the Chief of Police in 2004. He was instrumental in major Schuylkill County drug raids. He was a member of the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force and a former secretary of the PA Drug Task Force.

George was a member of Church of All Saints, McAdoo, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 5, McAdoo AMVets and a social member of the McAdoo Fire Co.

He was an avid Notre Dame football and Phillies baseball fan and enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife Mary Ann.

George was a dedicated public servant, with a big smile and sharp wit, and he will be greatly missed by many.

Preceding him in death were a brother Patrick Pennington, and brother-in-law George Sacco and his wife Joyce.

Surviving, are his wife of 13 years, Mary Ann (Sacco) Pennington; daughter Barbara; 2 grandchildren; sister Carol Bittle, New Jersey; and several nieces also survive.

His funeral will be held Monday from the Damiano Funeral Home, Inc., McAdoo, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Msgr. Zemanik will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial in Church of All Saints, McAdoo, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, McAdoo.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Thomas H. Pillsbury
, 76, of Old Forge Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Geisinger St. Luke's in Orwigsburg.

Born on May 26, 1947 in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Charles A. Sr. and Alice H. Berger Pillsbury.

Thomas was a 1965 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.

He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2* and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device

Thomas had been a truck driver and worked for Service Truck Lines in Orwigsburg

Preceding him in death were his one true love Gail Rager Pillsbury; and a brother Charles A. Pillsbury, Jr.

Surviving are a son Boe and wife Sarah Pillsbury; two daughters, Hope and husband Daniel Orwig, Shannon Yoder and companion Jacob Camarena, all of Pine Grove; seven grandchildren, Taylor Orwig, Brooke Orwig, Gavin Pillsbury, Connor Pillsbury, Alexander Pillsbury, Dylan Aungst and L.J. Rumpf; a great grandchild Isabella; his companion Boy; three step children, Thomas, Chastity, and Brandy Schneck; a brother James Pillsbury of Pine Grove; two nephews, Shane Pillsbury and Ty Pillsbury.

Graveside Services and interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a procession leaving the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 139 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove on Monday, July 17, 2023, promptly at 9:15 A.M. Anyone wishing to follow in the procession is asked to arrive at the Funeral Home by 9:00 A.M. on Monday.
