Shenandoah Valley Elects National Art Honor Society Officers; Seeks Veterans Missing from World War II Memorial

At the recent meeting of the Shenandoah Valley National Art Honor Society elections were held to determine who would serve as officers for the coming year.

Selected were seated L-R: Hailey Helsel Vice President, Jacob Coolbaugh President, and Morgan Labosky Treasurer. Kneeling: Jubylie Cruz Social Media. Standing: Jennifer Zemek Art Teacher & Advisor, Jose Barrientos Historian, Alicia Hernandez Historian, & Manty Li – Fundraiser Officer. Missing from photo was Leslie Paniagua – Secretary.

The first order of business was having the members made aware of the initial project for the upcoming school year that consisted of refurbishing the frames on the WW II Memorial that listed the men and women who served our country during the Second World War.

The memorial is in the lobby of Shenandoah Valley High School Gymnasium and houses a Memorial to honor the men and women from the Shenandoah area who served in the military during the Second World War.

The memorial currently lists over three thousand names that came about as a project initiated by the Shenandoah Valley Student Council.

Over the course of time, it became apparent that some veterans were inadvertently missed.

In an effort to rectify the situation, Shenandoah Valley is asking that if anyone knows of a veteran who was missed to email his or her name to Public Relations Director Bob Yudinsky at bobyudin@hotmail.com or Student Council Advisor Anthony Pytko at pytka@svbluedevils.org.

All WW II veterans from the Shenandoah area and West Mahanoy Township are eligible regardless of what school they attended. Those who were missing will be acknowledged at the annual Veterans Day Program hosted by the Shenandoah Valley Student Council.

This project is being performed in conjunction with the members of the Shenandoah Valley National Honor Society and their advisor Mr. Anthony Pytko.
