North Schuylkill Students Embrace Artistic Spirit in Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest

On Wednesday, an artistic spirit swept through North Schuylkill High School as students took part in the 61st Annual North Schuylkill Halloween Window Painting Contest.

The event, which has become a tradition for the district, encourages students in grades 7 through 12 to transform business windows across Ashland, Frackville, Ringtown, and Butler Township into canvases of Halloween-themed art.

This year, the contest's theme is aptly titled "Hippy Halloween," inviting young artists to infuse a groovy, psychedelic vibe into their creations. The artistic process kicks off with students submitting their imaginative ideas on paper, after which the top selections are selected by the Art Department at North Schuylkill.

Once the artists' concepts are chosen, they are then assigned a window in their respective communities, where they work to translate their vision from paper to a window painting. The contest not only promotes artistic expression but also fosters a sense of community as the towns come alive with Halloween spirit.

Adding to the excitement, each year, retired North Schuylkill Art teachers hit the road, traveling from town to town as they expertly evaluate and judge the painted windows.

Prizes are awarded for: Grand Prize, 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and Honorable Mention.
