Robert John Pastucha
of Hometown entered eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 15, 2024.

Born on March 4, 1930, he was the son of Martin and Mary (Zajecek) Pastucha and William Berger. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Faye (Henry) of nearly 70 years and his 5 siblings, brothers - Charlie, William, and John Pastucka, and sisters - Stephanie Pavlovich and Mary Wehr. Robert “Bob” was born in Seek, Pennsylvania where he lived before moving to Tamaqua, and then to Hometown. A United States Army Veteran, upon discharge he was employed in his younger years by the L & NE Railroad alongside of his stepfather and then alongside his wife at the former Kay-Jay Factory in Nesquehoning, PA. He also was employed for many years in the Tamaqua Area School District where he was a custodian at Rush Elementary. He was well known around the school and by the children who still to this day, lovingly and respectfully, call him “Mr. P” or “Mr. Pastucha”.

Upon his retirement, he worked various jobs as he enjoyed being with people. Some of these included The Times News and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit as a driver. Dedication, hard work, and friendship were at the core of who he was and what he stood for. In his older years, Bob spent many of his days on his back porch, swinging on his swing, telling stories of his family and days gone by. He was kind and good and was always there to give a little dashing smile along with a wink to those he loved. His family always knew they were loved because he would make sure he told you and he always showed you. Every visit and call he told you how much you meant to him. He wore his heart on his sleeve and his emotions were easily recognized. Even to his very last breath, as tears rolled down his cheeks, he spoke his final words of “God Bless You” and “So Beautiful”. These words will carry on eternally in the hearts of his “girls”. He was a strong patriarch to his family, a good friend to all, and a truly admirable and good man. Bob enjoyed many fun times throughout his lifetime of nearly 94 years. He loved a good laugh, a good basketball and football game, and good food. He liked to learn about and discuss history. He loved his memories of the train, fishing trips, and holidays. He loved his family greatly and looked forward to their visits and time spent together. You could always find him dancing to the polkas on Sunday mornings and sharing words of wisdom such as “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice”.

He is survived by his children - sons, Robert Pastucha and his wife, Sonja, of Brandonville, Dennis Pastucha and his wife, Sally, of York, daughters, Beverly, wife of Bryan Gottstein of Hometown, and Judy, wife of Bryan Geiger of Orwigsburg. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Bryan Pastucha, Amy Reilly (Ronald), Stacie Gottstein Mehalick (Robert), Matthew Pastucha, Heather Pastucha Bowser (Anthony), Dennis Pastucha (April), James Pastucha (Kelly), Robert Pastucha, Leslie Gottstein Thompson (Matthew), Mallory Geiger, and Maxwell Geiger; and 11 great-grandsons, Thomas Pastucha, Aiden and Angus Reilly, Luke and Benjamin Bowser, Jack Pastucha, Robert and Henry Mehalick, and Declan, Boden and Finnegan Thompson.

Bob’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the St. Luke’s Hospice team especially Lisa and Lora and the entire staff at Maple Shade Meadows where he spent the last of his days here on Earth.
