John Richard Meredith
, 81, lifelong resident of Tamaqua, died on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Hometown. He was the husband of Mary A. (Haldeman) Meredith to whom he was married 53 years. 

Born in Pottsville on June 8, 1942, John was a son of the late John W. and Beatrice K. (Bittenbender) Meredith. A 1961 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he retired from the former Morgan Knitting Mills. John had been employed at Meredith Printing on West Broad Street in Tamaqua and previously had been a Heisler’s milk truck driver. For 33 years he was a member of the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania - Hometown Unit. 

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by son, John Meredith and his wife, Suzanne of Rochester, NY and Michele Meredith of Tamaqua; granddaughter, Cora Meredith; and brother, David J. Meredith of Tamaqua.

Marion C. Klein
, 91, of Nesquehoning and formerly of Tamaqua, died on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Nesquehoning. She was the wife of the late Earl L. Klein with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage at the time of his death in May 2018. 

Born in Kaska, PA on July 4, 1932, Marion was a daughter of the late James W. and Kathryn E. (Folk) Lewis. A 1950 graduate of Tamaqua High School, she was employed at the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds where she met Earl. Marion had also worked in the Tamaqua Elementary School cafeteria. She had been a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Tamaqua where she was a regular worship service attendee, sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School assistant, was a member of Koinonia and the Women’s Organization, and assisted with rummage sales. Very dedicated to both her church and family, Marion was loved by people at church, the Majestic House and Maple Shade Meadows which served as her residences in recent years, and Luigis which she frequented while living on Broad Street. 

She is survived by daughters, Kathy Pelcheck of Bath and Laura Hepler and her husband Kris of Womelsdorf; grandchildren, Aaron Hepler and his wife, Elizabeth of Auburn, Benjamin Hepler and his wife, Kelseyleigh of Middletown, Jennifer Russell and her husband Neal of Downingtown, and Jeffrey Pelcheck of Philadelphia; great grandchildren, Avonlea Hepler, Clarke Russell, and Nell Russell; a sister, Nancy Miller and her husband Paul of Tamaqua; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

She was predeceased by a sister, Patsy.

James H. Freeman, Jr., 82, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away at his residence, with his wife Sandra J. (Stein) Freeman by his side on Friday, January 5th, 2024.
He was born in Pottsville on April 12, 1941, a son of the late Elsie (Wyhe) and James H. Freeman, Sr.
James & Sandra were married on April 19th, 1998.

He was a graduate of Pottsville High School, class of 1959, and was a member of Welcome United Methodist Church, Landingville, He previously was employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic at Reading Anthracite.
In addition to Sandra, his wife, James is survived by his son, Patrick Freeman, fiancé of Alana Tallman of Frederick, MD, stepchildren David Kriner and Melodie Wildermuth; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his son, James H. Freeman III , his sister Marilyn Mathias and his first wife, Patricia Wineland Freeman.

William C. Ennis, 87, of Ashland passed away peacefully Friday morning January 5th at home.

Born in Ashland on May 10, 1936 he was the son of the late Eleanor (Dolan) and William Ennis Sr.

Bill graduated from Ashland High School with the class of 1954.

He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo in Ashland.

He worked for PPL for 33 years until he retired.

Bill belonged to Ashland Fish & Game, Washington Fire Company, and Bull Run Camp in Renova where he was president. He was a coach for Little League for many years when his 2 boys were growing up. Bill also coached for Teener League, Biddy Basketball where he was a coach and president.

He loved fishing, hunting, his beagles which he trained for shows, pinochle and camping.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by; infant baby daughter; daughter Suzanne Smith who passed in 2009; son William Ennis III who passed in 2015.

Bill is survived by his high school sweetheart Patricia (Klinger) Ennis to whom he was married to for 68 years; son Stephen Ennis (Robin), Gordon; grandchildren Howard Smith (Christina); Dawn Reed, Courtney Smith, Brooke Ennis, Billy Ennis, Stephen Ennis, Brett Ennis (Kylee); 7 great grandchildren.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Funeral services will be held privately at the family’s request.

Arlen R. Day, Sr.
91, of Pottsville, died peacefully December 2, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill.

He was born December 8, 1931, in Pottsville a son of the late Edmond and Carrie Miller Day.

He was a 1950 graduate of Pottsville High School.

He was a Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. While in the Navy he was quarterback for the Naval Missleman Football Team.

Prior to retiring Arlen worked for General Battery Exide Production and the Republican Hearld.

Arlen was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and the Crimson Tide Club. He also was a Pottsville Midget Football Coach where he coached the Panthers; a Pottsville Area High School All Sports Hall of Fame inductee for his ability in Football on June 24, 2004; Allen-Rogowicz Sports Hall of Fame inductee on Oct 20, 2013.

Throughout his life Arlen was an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons, Shawn Day and Tristyn Bruen; 2 brothers, Ken and Frank Day; 2 sisters, Clara Fallwood and Reda Axe; a grandson-in-law Chuck Sorokach.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years of marriage, Patricia Dumbrowney; a daughter, Cheryl Swartz, Pottsville; Arlen “Rick” Day, II and his companion Tammy Bebelheimer, Pottsville; 9 grandchildren, Kim Quinn and her husband Bobby, Heath Bruen and his wife, June, Randy Bruen, Diana Sorokach, Melissa Day, Christopher Day, Sandy Day, Samantha Day, Samantha Jo Jones and her husband, Ben; 19 great-grandchildren, Dylan, RJ, Elliott, Kayonna, Whitten, Tori, Angel, Ashley, Kenny, Kara, Savanna, Kayla, Sakira, Malaki, Caitlyn, Brady, Austin, Maddy, Mason; 9 great-great grandchildren, Scarlett, Karson, Hadlie, Koda, Raelyn, Jacob, Everleigh, Heath, Belle; nieces, nephews, brother-in-law.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Saturday, January 13, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30AM until the time of Mass. Interment with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Arlen be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Kenneth E. Walls, 65, of Pottsville, passed away on January 4, 2024, at Pottsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Lewistown on September 15, 1958, he was the son of the late Ronald Walls and Linda (Frankhouser) Hudson, of Shrewsbury, PA.

Kenneth served in the United States Air Force and prior to retiring, was a Carpenter working in Construction.

Surviving, in addition to his mother Linda, is brother, Douglas Walls.

Private cremation services have been entrusted to Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Pottsville.

William E. Lamberth, 80 of Pine Grove, passed away on Friday, January 5, in the Tremont Health & Rehab. Center.

Born on May 2, 1943, in Huntersville, NC, he was a son of the late William and Ruby Fullum Lamberth

William worked in Maintenance for Tyco Electronics.

A son, William Lamberth preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Kym Adams Lamberth, 2 Sons, Ricky Lamberth and his companion Beth Todd of Palo Alto and Eugene Lamberth of Pine Grove; a Daughter, Cheyenne wife of Joshua Snyder of Pine Grove; 10 grandchildren, Kira, Eric, Ryan, Hope, Benjamin, Star, Ashley, Nevaeh, Isabella, Noah, and 9 great grandchildren.

The H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove is in charge of the arrangements.
