Blue Mountain Eagles Fly to First Schuylkill League Girls Basketball Championship


The Blue Mountain Eagles clinched their first-ever Schuylkill League Girls Basketball Championship title Friday night, triumphing over the North Schuylkill Lady Spartans in a game dominated by defense and high stakes.
This game marked the third meeting of the season between the Eagles and the Lady Spartans. North Schuylkill, while Blue Mountain bounced back to claim the win in their second showdown.

From the opening tip-off, both teams showcased their defense, resulting in a low-scoring affair riddled with turnovers. The first quarter concluded with Blue Mountain holding a narrow 4-2 advantage. As halftime approached, the Eagles maintained their slim lead, heading into the break with a 9-8 edge.

Undeterred by the pressure of the championship stage, Blue Mountain continued to assert their defensive dominance throughout the third quarter, limiting North Schuylkill's offensive opportunities and extending their lead to 20-13 heading into the final period.

Before the capacity Martz Hall crowd, the Blue Mountain Eagles soared to victory, ultimately securing a 30-19 triumph over the North Schuylkill Lady Spartans.

Leading the charge for Blue Mountain was Kylie Conway, who delivered 10 points. Makayla Keck added 7 points, including two three-pointers. Additionally, Kierston Faust, Emily Heydt, Lindsey Gibson, and Cala Armenise each contributed points.

North Schuylkill's Olivia Burke led the offensive charge for North Schuylkill with 13 points. Mya Conti contributed with 6 points, including 4-points from the charity stripe.

Blue Mountain's win also earns them the top seed in the District XI Class 4A Tournament that will begin next week.

The Lady Spartans fall to the 2nd seed in District XI Class 4A.
