UPDATE: Over 25,000 Homes Remain Without Power in Schuylkill County

Over 25,000 homes remain in the dark Tuesday afternoon in Schuylkill County.

As the snow fell Tuesday morning, it began to weigh down on trees and wires all across Schuylkill County bringing down utility poles and power lines.

By late Tuesday morning, over 30,000 homes were without power.  As power was restored and the snow melted, the weather decided to continue to be difficult with the arrival of high winds.

By 3:45pm, PPL reports that 25,839 homes are still without power.

The largest outage is reported to be in the Ashland, Fountain Springs, and Lavelle area with 4,244 homes listed as not having electricity.

Not far behind, East Norwegian Township was listed as having 3,619 without power.  Pine Grove Township, with 2,512, and Schuylkill Township with 2,042, South Manheim Township with 1,922, Pottsville with 1,159, and West Penn Township with 1,107 also don't have power.

  • Porter Township - 852
  • Reilly Township - 12
  • Rush Township - 16
  • Ryan Township - 46
  • Tamaqua - 344
  • Tremont - 554
  • Tremont Township - 9
  • Union Township - 143
  • Upper Mahantongo - 110
  • Washington Township - 515
PPL may be overestimating, but some of the outages are listed of having estimated repair times as far out as Thursday afternoon.
