PIAA Individual Wrestling State Championship Results for Schuylkill County Athletes


The PIAA Individual Wrestling Tournament was held March 7th through March 9th, 2024, at the Giant Center in Hershey.

Nine wrestlers from Schuylkill County and the surrounding area competed in the tournament with one taking home Gold.

Below are the results for those athletes.

Ricky Halford - North Schuylkill (160 lbs. AA) - North Schuylkill Senior Ricky Halford started the tournament on Thursday facing off against Junior Ryan Celaschi from Frazier.  Halford would lose the match 13-2.  He move onto the consolation bracket where he faces off against Braden Vincenzes, a senior from Loyalsock.  Vincenzes would defeat Halford 1-0. 

Kyler Quick - Mahanoy Area (189 lbs. AA) - Mahanoy Area Sophomore Kyler Quick started the tournament on Thurdsay facing off against Junior Coy Bryson of Montgomery.  Bryson won the match 11-2.    Quick would move on the consolation bracket to face Mason Higley, a junior from Towanda.  Higley would win the match by pinfall.

Chase Stephen - Tri Valley (152 lbs. AA) - Tri-Valley Senior Chase Stephen started the tournament on Thursday facing off against Damon Michaels, a senior from Elizabeth Forward.  Michaels won the match by pinfall.  Stephen moved onto the consolation bracket where he went on to face Dalton Schadel, a sophomore from Line Mountain.  Schadel won the match by 7-5 decision.

Owen Woll - Blue Mountain (145 lbs. AA) - Sophomore Owen Woll started the tournament facing off against Kole Doppelheuer, a junior from Belle Vernon.  Doppelheuer won the match 11-0.  Woll moved to the consolation bracket to face Owen Ivcic, a sophomore from Bentworth. Ivic won the match by pinfall.

Augustus Warke - Schuylkill Haven (189 lbs. AA) - Schuylkill Haven Senior Augustus Warke started the tournament by defeating Easton Belfiore, a junior from Brookville, by a 5-0 decision.  In the second round, he faces Caleb Close, a junior from Bald Eagle Area.  Close would win the match by a 7-0 decision.  Warke moved on the consolation bracket where he face Cody Wagner, a senior from Faith Christian Academy.  Wagner won the match by a 5-2 decision.

Parish McFarland - Pottsville (152 lbs. AAA) - Pottsville Senior Parrish McFarland started out the tournament defeating Antonino Walker, a senior from Plum 4-3.  In the next round he faces Luke Sipes, a Junior from Altoona.  Sipes would win the match 14-0.  In the consolation bracket, McFarland faces Kyle Deisley, a senior from Hempfield.  McFarland won the match by an 8-2 decision.  Continuing in the consolation bracket, McFarland faced Griffin Walizer, a senior from Central Mountain.  Walizer won the match by a 4-2 decision.

Nick Kunstek - Pottsville (160 lbs. AAA) - Pottsville Senior Nick Kunstek started the tournament against Cardan McDonnel, a senior from Bethel Park.  Kunstek won the match 15-0.  in the next around he faces Gavin Cole, a junior from Council Rock South.  Kunstek was the match 5-0.  In the semifinals, Kunstek face Ryan Garvick, a senior from Central Dauphin.  Garvick won the match 8-4.  In the consolation bracket, Kunstek faced Gunna Myers, senior from Wallenpaupack.   Kunstek defeated him in a 5-4 decision.  In the match for 3rd place, Kunstek faces Bode Marlow, a junior from Thomas Jefferson.  Marlow would win 3-1.  Kunstek finished the tournament in 4th place.

Eve Kurtz - Pine Grove Area (140 lbs. Girls) - Pine Grove Junior Eve Kurtz started the tournament facing Alahna Morris, a junior from Lake Lehman.  Morris won the match by a 2-0 decision.  In the consolation bracket, Kurtz faced Katrina Semens, a senior from Warren.  Kurtz won the match by pinfall.  In the next round, Kurtz faced Myah Mulgrew, a junior from Cumberland Valley.  Kurtz won the match by a 3-1 decision.  In the following round, Kurtz faced Marissa Rumsey, a senior from Williamsport.  Rumsey won the match by pinfall. In a match for 7th place, Kurtz faced Symarah Drey, a senior from Bethlehem Liberty.  Kurtz won the match by pinfall and finished the tournament in 7th place. 

Brenda Banks - Panther Valley (235 lbs. Girls) - Panther Valley Senior Brenda Banks started the tournament facing Brooklyn Ayala, a senior from Penn Manor.  Banks won the match by pinfall.  In the next round, she faced Zoey Murphy, a sophomore from Southmoreland.  Banks won again by pinfall.  Next she faced Kayla Henderson, a senior from South Western.  She won the match by a 2-0 decision.  In the finals, she faces MacKenna Atkinson, a freshman from Souderton.  Banks won the match by a 3-0 decision and took home PIAA gold and first in the tournament.
