John M. Schropp, 77, of Shenandoah Heights, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2024 at Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah Heights.

Born on February 1, 1947 in Glendon, he was the son of the late James and Sophie (Koslosky) Schropp.

John was educated in the Mahanoy Area schools and was a retired machine operator. He was a follower of the Worldwide Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Joseph, and Casimir; and two sisters, Madeline Reese and Elizabeth Henning.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karen (Capiga) Schropp; son, John Schropp; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Robert Loosli; grandchildren, Alden and Alice Loosli; brothers, Clement and Robert; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Snyder; brother-in law, Kenneth Henning; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Religious services will be held on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 at 10:00 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah with Rev. Julian Milewski officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellow’s Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday morning from 8:30 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the National CMV Foundation at www.nationalcmv.org.

Sandra A Wiest
, age 71, of Deer Lane, Hegins, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at her home.

She was born on Monday, October 20, 1952, in Harrisburg, a daughter of Blanche I (Long) Wiest of Tower City and the late Kermit Wiest.

Sandy was a payroll administrator for TE Connectivity, Lickdale, prior to her retirement..

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View; where she was very active in the church community.

Sandy enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts, and spending time with her family and pets.

She was preceded in death by her father; and by two brothers, Keith Wiest and Ron Wiest.

She is survived by her companion of 33 years, Michael A Trusky.

She is also survived by a daughter, Christine M Duffy and her husband Ryan of Swoyersville; and a brother, Karl Wiest of Spring City.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento, on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Lee Diefenderfer officiating.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Inc., Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

James R. “Jim” Gross
, 80 of Pottsville died Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, East Norwegian.

He was born June 30, 1943, in Pottsville a son of the late Herbert and Frances McCord Gross.

He was a 1961 graduate of Nativity BVM High School, a graduate of Bloomsburg University and later served on the Board of Trustees’ and was a graduate Marywood University.

He served 4 years in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Prior to retiring Jim was a teacher for numerous schools in Schuylkill County.

Jim was a member St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, the former Mary Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, both of Pottsville; he was also a PIAA official for baseball and basketball and served as the Controller for the City of Pottsville.

Throughout Jim’s life he coached Little League and high school baseball all throughout the area and big supporter of Nativity and Pottsville sporting events. He was also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and a daily staple with his group of friends at the Mauch Chunk/Route 61 Dunkin Donuts, Pottsville.

He was preceded by in death by a brother, SP4 Vincent Lee Gross, M.P.; a sister Rosemary “Rosie” Hostetter; a brother-in-law, Edward Nevadomsky.

Surviving are 2 sisters, Karen Measel, Port Carbon and Diane Nevadomsky, Pottsville; nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Robert Hostetter, Pottsville; two close friends, Mike & Frank Peron.

Service of Remembrance will be held 11AM Thursday, March 14th at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville, with Rev. Barnabas Shayo officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9am until the time of services. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Jim be made to St. Patrick Pottsville Area Soup Kitchen, C/O 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901.

Albert Miller Jr., 52, of Centre St., Ashland, passed away March 8, 2024 at his residence.
