Leonard W. Matz
, 79, of Surfside Beach, SC, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 1st, with his loving wife Gwen, daughter Ashley, and faithful companion, Blue, by his side. Lenny’s true passion was the owner/grower of Knarr’s greenhouses and flowers, where for 30 years, his family and friends helped the business flourish. Lenny eventually retired from Penn State Schuylkill campus.

Lenny is also survived by his sister, Debbie Madrigal and her husband Robert, various in-laws, nieces and nephews, and his lifelong coffee friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.

Lenny was a Purple Heart recipient for his service during the Vietnam War.

A viewing will be held for friends and family from 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday, March 8th at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven.

Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

Jeanette L. (Walton) Shollenberger
, 95, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024, at Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Born in Pottsville on May 31, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Isabelle (Day) Walton.

Jeanette was a member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church in Pottsville where she was a faithful member of the choir. She was known for being an incredible artist and loved to spend her time doing crafts.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shollenberger; sister, Esther Ketner; and brothers John, Harold, and Richard Walton.

Surviving is daughter, Bev Acri and husband Dominick; Pottsville, sons, Thomas Shollenberger and wife Kathy, Lenhartsville, and Dennis Shollenberger and wife Cindy, Camp Hill, grandchildren, Charles Acri and wife Laura, Kevin Acri and wife Emily, Sean Shollenberger, and Tom Maloney; and great grandchildren, Toby Acri, Madeline Maloney, and Zoe Maloney.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8th, from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W Market Street, Pottsville, with an 11:00 AM service with Pastor John Wallace, First United Methodist Church, Pottsville. Interment will follow the service at Schuylkill Haven Union Cemetery.

Tyler L. Carl
, 27, of Sweet Arrow Lake Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 in Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital in Orwigsburg.

Born on March 27, 1996 in Pottsville, he was a son of Christopher Carl of Pine Grove and Jessica Hoover of Schuylkill Haven and her fiancé William Powell of Reading.

Tyler was a 2014 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.

He was a fork lift operator at Big Lots in Tremont.

Tyler was a very unique and loving person. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nephew Braxton. He had a number of tarantulas and collected rare artifacts. He also enjoyed playing video games. He was a social member of the Pine Grove VFW and Pine Grove Fish & Game.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Alec, Colby, and Dakota Carl; a half sister and brother, Emmaleigh and Caiden Carl; grandparents, Kenneth and June Carl of Pine Grove, Raymond and Vicki Hoppes of Orwigsburg, Michael and Doreen Derfler of Pine Grove; a great grandmother, Virginia Derfler of Pine Grove; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove with Pastor David Brady officiating. There will be a visitation on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions in his memory be made to the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 139 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 to help with expenses.

Kenneth R. Frehafer, Sr.
, age 68, of Pottsville, PA passed away Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at his home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on February 17, 1956, he was the son of the late Harold "Butch" and Dorothy (Dillow) Frehafer.

Ken was a longtime member of the Buck Fever Rod and Gun Club, the Mechanicsville Game and Fish, the North Ward Social Club, and several V.F.W.'s, and a lifetime member of the Goodwill Fire Company. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the cabin in Potter Co., social gatherings, dancing, and the company of his family.

Ken is survived by his wife of 29 years, Gloria Jean (Lash) Frehafer; children: Joyce Skies and husband Jim, Reading, Kenneth Jr. and wife Billie Jo, Pottsville, John and wife LeAnn, Pottsville, Kelly Mills and husband Chris, Pottsville, and Bradd Wychunas and companion Tiffany, Pottsville; nine grandchildren: Samantha Schweikert, James Jr. and Darrin Long, Kenneth III and Levi Frehafer, Kendra and Joshua Frehafer, and Clayton and Jordyn Mills; four great-grandchildren: Luna, Luke, Colt, and Mila; brothers: Harold "Butch" Jr. and wife Michele, Auburn and Carl and late wife Gina, Pottsville; sisters: Lorraine Cingmars and husband George, FL, Mary Ellen Maurer and late husband Terry, SC, and Helen "Penny" Frehafer, Pottsville, and nieces and nephews.

A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon on Friday March 8, 2024 at 7Pm, with Pastor Jack Murray officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday evening from 5-7Pm at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be held private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ken's memory to the Mechanicsville Game and Fish Trout Rodeo 925 First Street, Pottsville, PA 17901.

Gloria J. Nester, 79, of Orwigsburg, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Kenneth C. Nester. They were married on June 17, 1967 and celebrated 56 years of marriage. 

Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to working on the family dairy farm. Born in Schuylkill Township, Mary D, she was the daughter of the late Grace Jeffery. Gloria loved the close relationship she had with her family. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. 

Surviving in addition to her husband Kenneth, are two sons, Kevin K., and his wife Lisa, of Hamburg, and their son, Matthew, and Keith C., of Orwigsburg; brother, Norman Gould, and his wife Gwen, of Mary D; two sisters, Beverly, wife of Gary Kutz, of Tamaqua, and Beth Ann, wife of Gerald Throop, of Hazleton; and nieces and nephews. Graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 10am Friday, March 8, 2024, in the cemetery at Christ Church McKeansburg, 1751 Chestnut St., New Ringgold, with Rev. Jonathan Heim officiating. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold.
