Schuylkill Technology Center Student from Shenandoah Valley Earns Place in National DECA Competition

George Lopez Vazquez, an 11th grade student from Shenandoah Valley School District enrolled in the Marketing and Business Administration Program at the South Campus of Schuylkill Technology Center earned a spot on the National Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Competition scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California April 26, 2024, to May 1, 2024.
“George competed against 76 other students in the statewide competition held in Hershey, PA February 21-23, 2024, and he will be the first STC student to ever compete in the National DECA Competition,” said Director Shannon Brennan.

STC operates a local DECA Chapter, dedicated to preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges throughout the globe (www.deca.org). DECA hosts industry-validated competitive events that involve written and interactive components aligned with the career and technical programs of study for marketing, business, tourism, hospitality, and finance.

In addition to George’s success, 2 STC students earn 1st place, 5 students were triple medal winners, 6 students earned double medals, and 1 earned a single medal.

Each medal represents being in the 3 top career and technical education students in the state for the comprehensive test, first role play, and second role play.
