APRIL FOOLS: Schuylkill County to Officially Change Name to "Skook" County


In a move that has sparked both excitement and controversy, officials in Schuylkill County, have announced that the county will undergo a significant transformation - a change in its name. 

Going forward, Schuylkill County will be officially known as "Skook" County.

The decision, which was made public by the Schuylkill County officials this morning. Officials stated during a press conference earlier Monday, April 1st, 2024, marking the culmination of months of deliberation and debate among local leaders. The change was made since so many people have trouble pronouncing the word, "Schuylkill".

In a joint statement, leaders said, "The name 'Skook' encapsulates the spirit, pride, and resilience of our community. It's a name that resonates deeply with our residents and reflects our unique culture and heritage."

The term "Skook" has long been used by locals as an affectionate nickname for Schuylkill County.
