Stewart J Miller, age 94, of Hegins, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah, with his loving daughter by his side.

He was born on Monday, March 9, 1931, in Hegins, a son of the late Herman H Miller and the late Mabel L (Smith) Miller.

Stewart was a coal miner for Lewis Smith Mining, than worked at Robert Schwartz, Sr Farms, and than was a carpenter for sixty years for Herman Miller Construction until his retirement .

He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins.

He was also a member of the Aerobats Model Airplane Club and the Seniors Coalition.

Stewart enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and deep sea fishing. He always enjoyed cooking while at hunting camp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by infant twin sons; a great great granddaughter, Aubrey Masser, three brothers, Lewis F Miller, Clyde H Miller, and Harold Miller, and a sister, Mary A Clark.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan A Herb of Hegins; two sons, Elmer W (Gayle) Miller of Grand Junction, CO and Henry L (Carol) Miller of Hamilton, MT, nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; a brother, Lamar Miller of Hegins; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Friedens Cemetery, Hegins, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 am, with Rev. Lee Diefenderfer officiating.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Inc., Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Stephen W. McCarthy
, 65, Barnesville, passed away on Sunday, May 11th at St. Luke’s Hospital in Coaldale with his loving family by his side.

Born in Ashland, he was a son of Joan (Brennan) McCarthy, Barnesville and the late Stephen P. McCarthy.

Stephen was a talented graphic designer who worked for the former Zapata Industries and Accelare of Massachusetts.

He was a devout member and lector for St. Richard’s Catholic Church, Barnesville. He was also a member of the Frackville Elks Lodge #1533, the Knights of Columbus and the Northern Schuylkill Democratic Club.

Stephen was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking in his free time. He was a very devoted pet parent to his dog, Jake.

Stephen is preceded in death by his grandparents and by his father, Stephen P. McCarthy.

In addition to his mother Joan McCarthy, he is survived by two brothers: Jack and his wife Rose McCarthy, Mahanoy Plane; Robert and his wife Diane McCarthy, Mahanoy Plane; his nephews: Jeffrey, Michael and Robby: his nieces: Katie, Kristy and Kathryn; his grand-niece, Kylee.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th from St. Richard’s Catholic Church Barnesville with Rev. Robert Finlan, pastor, as the celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at the church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Frackville.

Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home Inc., Frackville is in charge of the arrangements.

Irene Rehrig, 90, of Tamaqua, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Lehighton. She was the wife of the late Harold R. Rehrig, to whom she was married for 63 years at the time of his passing in 2018. 

Born in Coaldale, Irene was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Kumanchik) Gregus. A good and caring mother who loved her family deeply, she was a homemaker who enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino, and caring for her plants. Irene was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church of Tamaqua. 

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Fritz, and her husband Gary of Coaldale; sisters, Bernadine Welsh and her husband Jack of Lewes, DE, and Margaret Dirnberger and her husband Paul of Portsmouth, RI; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Irene was predeceased by three brothers, John, Michael, and Louis Gregus; and four sisters, Josephine Stianche, Catherine Martonyak, Mary Lauro and Ann Gregus. 

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Sky-View Memorial Park, 108 Lafayette Avenue, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
