Thousands of colorful rubber ducks took to the waters of Mill Creek on Sunday afternoon as part of the 37th annual Avenues Rubber Ducky Race.
The quirky and beloved fundraiser, hosted by Avenues—a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities—saw an estimated 5,000 ducks released into the creek at exactly 3:32 p.m. The event unfolded alongside the Coal Creek Commerce Center, drawing families, supporters, and curious onlookers eager to cheer on their adopted ducks.
Each duck, individually numbered and tied to a donor, raced downstream toward the finish line. Prizes were awarded to the first 27 ducks to cross, with a special prize set aside for the final duck to complete the course.
Proceeds from the race help support Avenues’ various programs and services throughout Schuylkill County and neighboring communities. Originally founded in 1952 as United Cerebral Palsy, Avenues has evolved into a vital resource for individuals with disabilities, focusing on empowerment, inclusion, and independence.
To ensure a smooth and duck-friendly race, the Schuylkill Haven Dive Team volunteered their time to guide the ducks safely down the creek and retrieve them at the finish line.
